Well, atleast things went really well for them with Valkyria Chronicles.

Hang on a second... are there only 30K yakuza 3's left on the shelves??? this would mean Sega will surely be shipping more then what's left!! - which will mean $$$ Profit for sure on this game....

Or hang on... What if Sega HAVE already shipped more then the 500K stated a while ago and this new press release from them is stating that NOW, after extra shipments have gone out that it have broken even???

When did they ship 500K units??? and how low does stock usually need to be before they ship more?

It's me...  no really, it IS me!!!

wow with those japanese sales yakuza only broke even? What the hell were they expecting? I thought the sales were good, but if they didn't make a decent profit yet you gotta wonder about what they were thinking.

Yakuza's got another 100k left in it yet in Japan. The first 2 were localised, so I don't see why this one won't be.

There's no way it could bomb THAT hard in the west.

Are people seriously suggesting it would do as badly as this game?

people take these quotes to literal. i doubt they just broke even. probably something more like they are in the black for the game but nothing worth to brag about.

Kaz - kenzan was suppose to be a ps2 game so the game is mostly ps2 graphics with cut scenes being the ps3 graphics so i doubt they lost much.(if any)

taking that into consideration do you really think this game cost alot of money since they already had most of the engine?

it's selling 4k already, it doesn't have 100k left at all.

Did Valkyria C. profit, break even or not?

We don't really know, but I imagine that if you count all the money from licensing, etc. then I think they broke even.

If you include the engine and none of the outside stuff, then most certainly not.

I really hope they do. Too bad all we can do so far is assume.

I'd do my part with the add-ons if they bundle it at a lower price.
The way they're selling it, I can only justify buying one add-on.

if you guys think this had a bigger budget than sales the ps2 couldnt cover then you guys are mistaken. (which btw it has outsold most ps2 srpgs) conclusion - VC profitted

I don't think there is a 100k left, but at least Sega is going to get more shipments in. (pure profit)

It's the cost of doing business in the HD era. You may have noticed all the recent rash of studio closures...

In fairness, the idea is that you'll get the mega-hit of the month, which CAN be quite lucrative. The problem is that there are only so many winners each month, and statistically speaking you're probably not  going to be it.

This site has incomplete Western data on Yakuza and Yakuza 2. However, the folks at NeoGAF have data stating that the first Yakuza did 50k in the U.S., and the sequel barely pulled out 30k. I have not seen either figure contested. THAT'S what we're seriously suggesting it will do.

^ you think it would cost over 1million dollars to hire no named english VA's? if not localizing would be a good idea. also knowing GAF they are going by NPD 50k x .1 = 55k plus they could also ship it to english speaking european countries (england)
