Microsoft looking to go "one step further" with motion says Moore

Peter Moore, ex-Xbox man, has said the corporate giant won't be planning to "replicate" Nintendo's success with the Wiimote, but to surpass its functionality.

EA Sports boss Moore adds Sony is "probably" investing in the same direction. Both companies have been rumoured to be working on motion controllers for quite some time now.

"I think that, knowing Microsoft in particular obviously, is that they are constantly thinking three to five years ahead of where consumer behaviour's going to be," Moore told GameTrailers, "how do people want to interact with their games, and are probably thinking about - not how do we replicate, you know, motion control, but how do we go one step further?"

"So, to your point, I think they're doing that and I think Sony are probably the same," concluded Moore, when asked about motion controllers.

Sony has been linked with a break-apart motion controller that they have down in the labs, though technically speaking the PS3 already employs some degree of motion control in the SIXAXIS and DualShock 3 gamepads.

Can Sony and Microsoft's madmen scientists revolutionize motion control somehow?

Interesting

Lets see what the future holds.....its obvious though to further succeed MS/SONY will follow the Mii Too strategy

or more fairly put.....they'll just copy nintendo like nintendo copied atari back in the day

Don't do it... even if you do please have a option to buy normal, non motion sensing controllers,

Well this is a normal train of thought, but most likely for next gen consoles, which has been the argument all along. Its too late for the PS3 and XB360 to tack on a full motion system like the Wii, but it is pretty much inevitable that all the XB360/PS3 fans will be forced to forget about traditional consoles next generation.

Next gen will come down to a close match, from what can be determined. All consoles will be HD and have motion sensing. It will come down to who does it the best and who has the most exclusives.

Guess as soon as both the PS3 and the 360 get motion controllers the most anti Wii gamers will stop using the word gimmicky or waggle, beacuse then they will only insult themselves

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

Oh, so theye just copy Nintendo's design. This feels like a decade ago.

I don't take these analysts seriously, nor do I think Microsoft would ever be viewed as respectable competition by Nintendo's market.

no thanks

I don't think there will be a "next gen."

I think Nintendo again will use a blue ocean strategy and again put out some form of hardware that makes porting its games impossible.  Nintendo sees what Microsoft did to Sony and won't allow Microsoft to do the same to itself.  Being extremely secretive and perhaps alienating third parties, Nintendo will at the last minute release some innovative hardware upgrade for its next gen console, when it is too late for M$ to copy it.  After M$ is too late in the production phase to turn back.  Secretiveness is the best way to defeat M$ because they are 100% incapable of innovation.

I think that, knowing Microsoft in particular obviously, is that they are constantly thinking three to five years ahead of where consumer behaviour's going to be,"
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.  That's a joke.  M$ does nothing but imitate.

if motion-sensing becomes necessary next-gen or this gen then I'm converting to pc gaming.
