Forums - PC Discussion - Starcraft 2 is too complicated for most players

Starcraft 1 (and almost every RTS) was too complicated for most players. It is not like they are targeting the casual gamer with this.

Aint Starcraft 2 a Real Time Strategy game?

So now having to use more strategy is bad?

People who suck at harder games are the first to complain. Most people hate UT2004, and all of them can't egt more than 3 frags a game.

Agreed.   I you just want to click and watch things die without any strategy, you can just buy Diablo 3 instead.

Watched the Battle Report of two professional players, and I was very dissapointed.  Now everything unit seems to have a special power.

Zerglings can morph into bombs

New air units with special bombs.

I tend to agree with your concern.  The problem with too much tech is it takes too long to research it.  Most games with Starcraft will take under 30 minutes (always run at fastest) and rarely over an hour, but some drawn out games might last a coupe of hours...   Note:  I wouldn't say it's too complicated for most players, just too complicated for quick lan games.  Sinlge player, complicated is fine.

I just hope it doesn't mean a typical game game will drag out over an hour.  I like that I can practice with protos vs. 7 zergs, and win the game in under an hour.  (or loose it much quicker from the overwhelming numbers of zerg!)

PS: I hate Warcraft 3 compared to Starcraft.  So those who compare it to that, it is a minus.  (Not to say I don't like Warcraft 3, just it's not as fun).

Long complex tech is fine for single player, and I'll still enjoy Starcraft II if it turns out to that, but it's not as good at lan partys...

I don't want heroes or leveling up or item collecting. I absolutely hated WarCraft 3. I thought it was an awkward hybrid between Diablo and StarCraft, and I did not want to play both games at the same time.

But I think StarCraft 2 is looking incredible so far. I can't wait to have some 8 player melee games on gigantic maps. Those were the most epic ones my friends and I would have. We'd play melee instead of fixed teams or FFA, so that as one player started to dominate, the other players could make alliances, and backstab each other. It would always end with some command center flying into somebody else's base saying "please don't shoot me down, let me borrow some of your minerals and I'll go protect an expansion for you."

And the best part about Battle.Net is that noobs can play noobs and pros can play pros, so the game won't be too easy or too hard for anybody.

Before this game comes out, we should all have a VGC Brood War binge to pump ourselves up.

Man I loved WC3, especially the hero units. The best part was you didn't hvae some BS strategies like the 2 zerg 1 probe zergling rush defense.

Making a game difficult will result in less people buying this game

Actually that's not true. It's not like by word of mouth it won't sell. People will just whine and QQ about it in forums. Did Ninja Gaiden lose sales because it was hard?

If it's too hard, people will trade it in.

If it's too easy, people will complete it and trade it in.

I can't imagine it being too hard for single player. I can imagine the balance isn't fun for multi-player. Part of that balance is game time. If the multi-player balance isn't good, people will trade it in.

Either way, millions will sell first week.... It might make a difference how many millions of actual sales, but it is going to be millions no matter what...
