Forums - Gaming - FF13 Going Multiplatform, How does it Really Affect Sony? ~ the FINAL Say!!

#4 is plain wrong. Sony doesn't get a portion of the revenue/profit of FFXIII (or other SE games') sales. They get dividend each year based on the amount of dividend the company wants to pay. This is usually depended on profit (overall of the company, not for each title seperately), but not necessarily. If the company wants to invest a bigger part of the profit into the company they can lower the dividend (but obviously this can make the shares less popular).

Thank you for the analysis

so Point 4 joins 5 & 2 in terms of being a bit silly

It won't be moving as much HW as it could have for the US and EU....

4 ≈ One

Seems reasonable, with the exception of points 4 and 5.

I suspect lost sales to 360 will not be worth the return on Sony stake in SE.

At this point I wouldn't hazard PS3 will look better. I think the only point of differentiation in the PS3 favour that we can be sure of is 1 disc vs multiple. As for graphics, gameplay, etc. there's no way to tell yet.

In many ways I think this was a clever play by SE. Keeping it exclusive in Japan shows solidarity with Sony and should confirm massive PS3 boost and FFXIII sales, while muliplatform outside Japan is sure to net them more sales than exclusive to PS3 as they will surely gain sales in US (and to a lesser extent Others) that they would not have got at all if the game was PS3 only.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Is point 4 real????

Yes it true thats why people were surprised that Sony lost this game as an Exclusive.  On Topic I do agree with most of your Points.

I don' t think this is going to affect Sony that much. The FF series has made its name on the Playstation consoles. I think the PS3 will have the advantage because the game is exclusive in Japan. The series is mostly popular in Japan. So at the end of the day, the PS3 version will sell more than the 360 version worldwide and lifetime sales.

TO GOD BE THE GLORY

What is true is that the EU/NA versions of the game are delayed for PS3 owners, and that is annoying. It is also true that this would have moved some consoles in EU/NA and it will no longer do so, this loses them money (potentially) on the PS3 hardware itself as well as its other titles (most likely White Knight Chronicles) and of course they lose the $5 (or something like that) which they would get from every lost sale of FF XIII
