I don't know the rest of you guys, but for me, this is somewhat what is actually going on. The result? The 360 and Ps3 are destroying each other while Nintendo keeps dominating and growing. Ps360 can have the old hardcore while Nintendo have the kids and everyone else. And not only that, they do have their best teams on their machine. This is not a discussion about the games you/I prefer, otherwise I would have gave up, because I like oldschool hardcore games. This is a discussion about sales. If the next generation PS3 and 360 stick to their traditional/actual market, that would mean MAD (Mutual Assured Destruction) and another generation of Nintendomination. But I predict that next gen every console would follow Nintendo's lead in terms of hardware and software. And that would be interesting to watch (I don`t know if worth playing) in terms of the business.

Being a gamer, I I'd rather have the "hardcore" rather than the "kids and everyone else" market on my side. Like I said in the thread talking about the Wii having 58% marketshare for the month of March....until the Wii gets a steady stream of games the likes of SFIV, RE5, Valyria Chronicles, Bioshock, Burnout Paradise, etc...you know, a stream of QUALITY 3rd party games....then I don't care how much it sells. It could have 1 billion sales, but as long as it doesn't have those kinds of games, then I don't (and nobody else should for that matter) care

Exactly my point.
I have two hobbies right now: Gaming Sales Discussion and gaming itself.
As a gamer, not a fanboy, I honestly say that if I had more money I would have got long time ago the other two systems. There are lots of games interesting to me.
But in a Sales Discussion I think having the kids and everyone else, (including some hardcore) is a sucessful long term marketing strategy. So back on topic= I still don't understand why position the Ps360 as the "hardcore exclusive machines" when you can have games in the "everyone's invited Wii inclusive machine". Following that path is only making the things easier to Nintendo.

Maybe the developers vision of a game couldn't possibly be done on a DS? OT: It depends what type of game you want to produce. If you want to make full use of Motion controls then Wii. Their is also a stigma attached to 3rd party Hardcore games not selling well on Wii. Lots of other things factor in to a developers choice of platform. |
lol sorry you missed the point I was trying to make... I was being sarcastic on top of it... he was stating console install base and I was being an ass and pointing out the install base of DS being 101 million AND cheapest current generation gaming device to develop for.

Looks like BMaker and BTFeather are a perfect couple. Their distorted views on gaming belong together. Only an ignorant gamer can claim that the Wii is just for casuals/kids. One can have the Wii + PC and have pretty much 95% of the games for all systems. How is having the hardcore audience working out for Sony this generation? They surely didn't rely on the casuals for PS1+PS2 did they?? Once you both get out of your delusional world let me know. Keep on bringing up "hardcore" and bullshit terms. Anyone can be considered a hardcore gamer. I can play Animal Crossing for 10 hours a day and that is pretty hardcore. BTFeather, keep on bringing up Japan like it freaking matters. Wow, PS3 almost outsold the Wii by 1,000 in Japan last week!!!!! Lets look at WW numbers.... Wii - 272k PS3 - 130k. When your beloved PS3 gets above Wii WW sales then let me know. Your arguments are weak and pointless. The only thing you do is throw around distorted and ignorant statements hoping you will get noticed.
On Topic: The Wii is cheaper to develop for (maybe not as cheap as some people originally believed but still cheaper), has the biggest marketshare, and has its own unique control style.
Man I love gaming forums people are so crazy, everything that sells on the "casual" console is minigames and shovelware when if you actually play those games... they're not shovelware, they're as much shovelware as Wii Sports but no one dares call that game shovelware cause they know for a fact it isn't but they feel safe calling other games shovelware since a lot of the core gamers that post on the internet that are big Wii gamers probably haven't bought those games, they've bought all the core games that made the million sellers list that everyone conveniently look over so they can properly troll, it's a brilliant system.

haha
MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.
-dev costs are cheaper
-the Wii has a bigger install base than the other 2
-the core market is underserved on the Wii, so if done right a core game on the wii has the possibility of being a mega-hit.

So the PS3 have outsold the Wii in Japan for 7-8 week that sound awfully great actually but then we look by how many..wich is what?? maybe 70k total in 7-8 weeks.
Then we see that Wii outsell the PS3 in others or NA by what each week?? 70k .
If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing
(mostly)
And shepherds we shall be,
For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints
In short, Gearbox - development cost. People are far too quick to assume that it costs nothing to make a an XB360 game and bring it to the PS3 or vice versa. There is still a severa hundred thousand dollar cost, since the coding backbone is significantly different, extra costs to release the game on a second platform if leasing an engine, and of course, the licensing fees on the other system.
People are flat out wrong to think that XB360 development = PS3 development. There is no such thing as "PS360" development. Outside of graphical capacity and processing power, they are very unique beasts.
