Forums - Nintendo - Retro Studios = Dead of Metroid?

Screw anyone who says the Prime series is a poor 3D translation of the 2D series before it. They obviously don't breathe oxygen. I'd like to see a studio that can do it better, even a little better. The art, the game flow and design, the constant effort to incorporate new complimentary elements... People... you can like both the 3D games AND the 2D games. Why is there only room in some hearts for one? Just don't expect the exact same game, because a 2D platformer/shooter and a 3D shooter/platformer are not going to feel exactly the same no matter what you do... but they both feel pretty damn good if you ask me.

Prediction: Wii passes 360 in US between July - September 2008. (Wii supply will be the issue to watch, and barring any freak incidents between now and then as well.) - 6/5/08; Wow, came true even earlier. Wii is a monster.

I think the Prime series was very well done and well recieved, but now that it's been concluded, I hope they give Metroid a rest for a bit and then come back to it from another angle (that also works for Japan). Maybe not 2d (leave that for DS) but not FPS style either.

Well, I have to agree with superchunk. Rocketpig is weird.   8)

OoT was definitely more revolutionary in it's own time, although I only started playing console games again a year ago, and find WW and TP to be much more enjoyable. I suppose all factors combined OoT is a "better" game.

The reason I think Metroid has been going in a better direction is that it totally skipped the N64 generation and went 3d with the more advanced Gamecube hardware. Or maybe the hardware had little to do with it, but getting the franchise redefining title just a few years ago makes it feel more recent? =P

Zelda hit gold with OoT and has been trying to emulate it ever since, with an engine that honestly is starting to feel old and clumsy at times after four games. I seriously hope the next Zelda has a totally new engine, and a LTTP->OoT level of innovation.

i would like to see a 2d, platform style metroid again.
Yes...a 2D Metroid with 3D models. They need to get rid of scanning. Am I the only one who doesn't like this part of the game?

I liked Fusion and Zero Mission a lot, and I'd love to see more 2D Metroids, but I also loved all three Primes, and I'd love to see more 3D Metroids as well.  IMO there's no such thing as too much Metroid.  :)

You're not the only one who dislikes scanning, but I'm not the only one who likes it either.  It makes you an active participant in the story.

I like how the scanning integrates the story, but they have you scanning a MILLION things. And I hate finishing the game and it says 99%, doesn't feel like I've finished it. Then you realize you can't scan that thing because you killed it. Even if the scan is there...it's far far away. Maybe they can make less scans.... I am okay with half a million.

Yeah, the only thing that bothers me about it are the one-time scans, especially ones that are really easy to miss. That always bothers me in any game with one-time collectibles.

I don't like one time scans but s can visor is sometimes useful (bosses for example)
I never finished metroid prime with 100% scan, it was impossible
(for me)

Give them Kid Icarus to develop (unless it's currently being internally developed at Nintendo). Or a brand new IP (of their design), they deserve it.

Metroid fans are the most volatile. They see a flaw and complain about it, and then when the next game comes and fixes those flaws, they complain more about other little things and expect the company to create a perfect game each time.

Poor Retro. They have it so hard. One review said BOTH that they changed too much and that it felt the same...

If you change too much, people complain that you changed too much. If you don't change enough, people complain that you didn't change enough. And now it seems, if you changed just the right amount, people complain about both!
