OoT was definitely more revolutionary in it's own time, although I only started playing console games again a year ago, and find WW and TP to be much more enjoyable. I suppose all factors combined OoT is a "better" game.
The reason I think Metroid has been going in a better direction is that it totally skipped the N64 generation and went 3d with the more advanced Gamecube hardware. Or maybe the hardware had little to do with it, but getting the franchise redefining title just a few years ago makes it feel more recent? =P
Zelda hit gold with OoT and has been trying to emulate it ever since, with an engine that honestly is starting to feel old and clumsy at times after four games. I seriously hope the next Zelda has a totally new engine, and a LTTP->OoT level of innovation.
