News flash: idiots in the gaming press still think DS and Wii sales are front-loaded. Still haven't learned their lessons from Boom Blox or World At War.

That's a terrible excuse. Look at the debuts for Brawl, Mario Kart Wii, or Wii Fit. They all had big debuts and legs. Look at New Super Mario Bros. if you want an example of a DS game with a big debut. This is a series known for having huge launch weeks, and the DS userbase is 100 million (about 75 million not counting Japan). The PS2 has a similar userbase size when San Andreas came out and the game debuted to sales of almost 4 million (and those numbers include Japan).

All I'm saying is that there is no good reason for this low debut. It might have legs and be successful, but the first couple weeks have been pitiful.

That's a terrible rebbutal. I did not claim there were no such games at all, for one. For another, San Andreas was after two GTA games had made the series a fanbase on that system.

All I'm saying is that this debut has plenty of reasons, and claiming there isn't just makes you look narrow-minded.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

i love how they think that CW bombed and it should return to psp on which last GTA sold even worse.

What now? Vice City Stories sold 162k in its first month in Americas according to VGC. (November 2006)

Liberty City Stories 161k in its first month of sales. (October 2005)

hmm yeah psp version sold quite a lot with way smaller userbase.

How was the adverstising for this game in the states? When GTA4 came out, every other commercial was for that game in Europe. I have yet to see any marketing for GTA Chinatown. But then again, maybe ads are being targeted at another demographic than myself. Where are people seeing this game marketed?

Having said that, i think in the long term, many analysts and users on this site will have to have to take back their words when this game starts selling huge amounts. But then again, you will always have people that will still call it a flop when it sells more than 2 million copies!!

I for one still have to get this game, but maybe in a couple months time, when i have time to immerse myself in it. I am not a big fan of the GTA series, but Chinatown Wars might be just what i need to get back into the series.

during first 3 weeks Chinatown sold better without japan sales than Vice City Stories worldwide.

it's sad that people want better game - CW to fail just because it's more about the gameplay than graphics unlike in previous GTAs.

I don't really care how any GTA does. I hate the series.

But it's obvious those numbers are going to change with the incoming adjustments. They will be very close in American sales with them and VCS is higher in Others.

However, CW should do well in Japan.

If you release a game so close to a pokémon game then your game is DOOMED.
It's not our fault rockstar are idiots. I don't care anymore for GTA anyway, it's always the same... Yeah, just like pokemon is always the same, but pokemon is lame as well imo

That's not true at all. GTA has always been a series with lots to do and lots of fun to be had, and a series that has below average graphics because of its size. Next time, get it right.

Ah, I see analysts are still stuck on the "summer blockbuster" model of video game sales, after having been proved repeatedly wrong with DS and Wii releases that sold well for months or even years after a lackluster debut. How... quaint.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

Wrong Handheld

 more like wrong art style.

here is my two reasons.

Kids these days only know 3D GTA, if anthing. Thos sales are by people who grew up on the original and wanted to get some of that old skool experience. So for this game to sell good on PSP it would need to be 3D too.

Not to mention, DS games are piss easy to pirate these days, so I honeslty think there is alot of R4s running warm in peoples DS. Reason I say this is because I told people GTA was out and they should buy it like I did cause it is cool, and they all laughed saying "why don't you download the rom, no one pays for DS games any more".

EDIT: come to think of it, when I got my PSP, there was a exploit to play homebrew stuff if you had liberty city to activate an exploit. That was one selling point of that game too.

so it sold just 0.09 but VGC says that it sold 0.2, too bad

this is awful sales for a GTA game, i guess it was too late to release a Ds version

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^
