We started work on this but decided to knock this back a bit as we make our final push towards the new site...

Oh. Sweet. Will I get some sort of recognition?

You are hereby recognized...

Hmm, I'm interpreting it as it will come some time after VGC 2.0.

TalonMan, can't you give some insider knowledge on a possible release date?

VGCHARTZ DREAM TEAM

So I'll out line the basic idea behind it first and then go through my ideas to make it VGChartz specific.

A Dream Team if you haven't participated in one before is a common online activity that usually revolves around a particular code of sport. You get a salary cap or budget with which you choose any player from the league and put into your team. A couple of catches are that the better players cost more and that yu have to fill your team with players - you can't pick 5 good players and then have 4 spots left for example. So it's about balance.

Each round, every player that played gets a score for how well they played. Therefore every player in your team gets a score corresponding to how they did. You win by having the most points either by round or by the end of the year.

Now how could that type of game possibly transfer over to the world of VGChartz? You're the CEO of a new publisher, you have a budget and are told to purchase a set number of development teams say 15 teams. Any team is free game from Bluetongue Studios, Rockstar North or even Nintendo's Zelda Team. The only catch is that the better developers cost more. How do we pick which is better and how do we get points to win the game?

We look at sales as only VGChartz would. The teams are ranked as per how many sales they pull in per year on average or by how much they pulled in for their last game - something along those lines. Then through the year, each player would rack up sales that correspond to the sales from games from the dev teams that they own.

Obviously I haven't put much thought into balance and the rules such as how many times per year may a team be sold/bought and how often etc but I'd just like to know what you think of the idea.

I had that idea a while ago but due to a few reasons.. Nothing has come of it thus far..

A "time played" button. How long time have you, in total, spent on VGChartz?

Oh god no. That would end up more depressing than fun.

I don't want to have physical evidence that I'm wasting away my life!

 It's not physical proof you're wasting your life . It's on a screen - it's virtual!

I also leave myself logged on even though I am afk playing Wii or PC game.  So a bunch of people could do this unless you made a feature that checked to see if you were idle then logged you out which would probably be a little annoying to some people.

arent the VG$ something like achivements?

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!

bet with *no one yet* that the combined first week of Monster Hunter 3 in america and europe will be 600k or more! winner changes looser sig and avatar for two months!

Wow... achievments would be awesome :D But we would be ripping-off Gamespot, and that is... well, lame I guess :P

That was my first thought as well when this topic originally came up...

...but then again, we're cooler than GS and have MUCH better web developers - so SCREW them, we'll do it the right way! :P

I'll be a skeptic of this until I see it in action, from where my opinion can go both ways

So you better do it right!
