Forums - Sales - Will 360 or PS3 catch up to PSP in terms of hardware sales?

We are going to leave Wii out of this because it is already passed the PSP and DS because that is nothing short of being unrealistic. In terms of software the PSP is pathetic to say the least however in terms of hardware it is done ok, not fantastically but definitely not badly.

According to this website -

PSP - 46.60 million - Released WW September 2005

360 - 29.63 - Released WW December 2005

PS3 - 21.57 - Released WW March 2007

I have got to say WOW at how close the release dates between PSP and 360 were and the substantial gap in sales (going my Wikipedia here so do tell me if I am wrong). Personally I think it is unlikely however do think that it could happen, for one I have not seen the PSP outselling the PS3 or 360 WW for a long time bar this week. If the hardware revision about the PSP is true it should boost sales as will the software coming.

Edit - Mods lock this thread please, had a look at the data and it is indeed impossible for either one to cath up to the PSP. The PSP outsold the 360 and PS3 even last year, I don't quite know what part of the year it is strong because as I said before I usually see it last in weekly WW sales.

I'd say it's really difficult, seeing as how the PSP continues to sell, although if any of the consoles stays long enough, might be.

PS3 is tracking above it if we compare launches

so why can't Ps3 do it?

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

both probably will

It might, but it'll take a few years. The PSP is still selling after all.

Not a 360 fanboy, just a PS3 fanboy hater that likes putting them in their place ^.^

Depends how deep this recession becomes really, but most likely after this year... we can form educated guess and from the looks of it... I think only one of the two consoles will beat PSP.

Depends on how long they keep them on the market and the price plan.

I think if Sony really does the 10 year plan and drops the PS3 to $130 level 6-7 years and games are still being pumped out then I would assume it has a good chance to outsell the PSP.

The 360 has a good chance once it hits $130 or so level itself, but also needs Japan's support because without it can lose on a weekly basis to the PSP. It may even take a complete hardware stoppage of the PSP for the 360 to even come close at It's current rate.

It's just that simple.

By 2012, they will probably have both passed it. I can't see the PSP selling for more than another year to be honest, unless Sony make good on their promises of giving it more support.

The handheld has not got any good software support for a very long time yet it sells very nicely. If the 4000 is true sales will increase + the games announced will help as well.

360 has no chance, released close to the PSP yet it so far away from it. PS3 is the one with any remote chance of doing it but that is if the console really takes off after a price cut.

The 360 has a chance, I think.
