1. 21 (USA)
2. It's fine where it is. 21 year olds are already dumb enough, I could only imagine if 16-18 year olds could legally drink.

Surprisingly, and this comes from experience, there is not much difference between 16 y/o drinking, and 21y/o's. Both are equally stupid.

I second this.

I have to disagree. There is a huge difference. You're still a kid at 16.

Belgian kids seem to do just fine.

I can't speak for other countries, but 16-21 year olds in the USA are fucking stupid.  The only reason they make it 21 is that they can't really make it any higher than that or else I would probably say make it somewhere around 24.

I don't understand where people are saying that lower the age will get people drinking in safer environments. Have you ever been to a college party? The people at most I have been to have all been over 21 and I can attest that the environment is not safe at all. If anyone could explain the whole "safer" environment thing that would be greatly appreciated.

its safer because it wont be seen as such a taboo, its like drugs, the more laws against taking them, the more people do it, its also safer because if people get used to drinking smaller amounts from a younger age, there less likely to binge drink when they get older.

Ok but then where does it stop then? Say for instance that they lower the drinking age to 16. Then say that I'm 16 and can drink legally and have younger siblings and they want to do it also. Then they will binge drink and it will be a taboo for them. And the same thing that is a problem now will still be a problem. Then who is to say that if the drinking age is actually lowered that people will even be safe about it and that they will drink small amounts? I still do not see this doing any good. Have you ever seen 16 year olds when they get their license for the first time? Most of them are reckless beyond belief (at least in my area) and then to say that they could drink also? That would be horrific.

its to do with what your body can cope with in part, id also make it legal for home use from say 8 or 9, if parents want to get there kids use to it and stuff.

Wow really? 8 or 9 to start drinking?? Why don't we just stop feeding our babies formula and get them used to alcohol? Then we could get them used to drinking when first born and then they will be used to drinking and not want to binge drink then. This is completely rediculous.

not really, it makes sense, if youre use to small amounts of alcohol from a younger age, then your less likely to binge when your older, besides, in small amounts infrequently, alcohol is relatively harmless.

1 or 2 pints once a month is hardly gonna kill your liver is it?

certainly its better than people who drink 7 or 8 pints 4 nights a week, so its up to you? do you want people drinking a small amount once a month or people drinking alot every day?

i think youve completed misunderstood, im saying that its better that alcohol is legal and not seen as bad, letting your kids drink in small amounts from 8 or 9 will stop them seeing it as bad and get them used to only drinking in small amounts, yes, of course many people dont drink, thats fine, but if people want the occasional drink, thats fine too, im not suggesting forcing them to do anything, im suggesting that we dont make it seem like such a bad thing, the more its seen as bad, the more likely people are to do it in later life, its like drugs, making them ilegal hasnt stopped people from taking them from as young as 11 or 12 has it?

no, alcohol in large amounts can be very bad for you, in small amounts on a very infrequent basis, its not really bad for you at all. age and responsobility dont allways go hand in hand either, i know a 15 year old who is alot more responsible than my friend who is 19, people are allways gonna drink from about 13/14 and older, thats fairly obvious, its up to you, id prefer that we encourage people who drink to do so responsibly, if you put more controls on alcohol, you will only make the problem worse.
