Forums - Nintendo - Fire Emblem is a difficult series, I don't know if you guys have heard

So bonus experience does make you level differently? I thought it was just... experience! Like I could use for leveling up Nino.

BEXP is essentially just a pool of experience you can use in between missions to strengthen units.

In Pool of Radiance, when you gain a level via BEXP, you level normally.  You get the random +'s.

In Radiant Dawn, when you gain a level via BEXP, you gain a level where 3 stats are guaranteed to gain +1.  There are two uses for BEXP because of this.  The first use is what I mentioned above: use it to gain a level during the last 5 levels of each tier where the level gains are usually poor and some stats are already capped so you can gain points in stats that the character has poor gains in.  The second use is getting your characters to the 99 experience point between missions during levels 1-15.  Thanks to this, your character will gain a level during their next battle.

So they nerfed bonus experience in Radiant Dawn, did they? Well, I guess it makes sense, that seems like the sort of thing that could be easily abused (especially with that many missions).

Thanks for the info.

Jill has descended amongst the unworthy mortals

All now must kneel.

Seriously, though. Set aside 75 hours of your life, and play through the whole Tellius saga (PoR and RD)

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Anyone else think Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones was ridiculously easy? As soon as you could access the tower, you could pretty much max out all your characters immediately.

If it were possible I would tell you to play FE7, which was just called "Fire Emblem" in English. It is most bitching. Unfortunately, that is probably hard to find now.

I'd try to start with.... I dunno, guys, is Path of Radiance too hard for a newbie?

Start with plain ol' Fire Emblem on the Gameboy Advance. It starts out slow but it quickly picks up. Although I have to say that the rain and fog levels made me rage...very...hard.

It so isn't a nerf.

Oh sure, BXP could be abused in PoR by saving, using BXP to level, and reloading your game if you didn't like what the RNG gave you. But this is too tedious for anybody but the cheesiest of cheesemasters to exploit.

Clever use of BXP can help you cap out all the stats of a character without resorting to tedium. My second playthrough of Radiant Dawn was so much easier because I learned how to properly exploit it. The trick is to let a character cap out two or three stats. Once a stat is capped, your potential growth from a normal level is reduced, but your potential growth from a BXP level is constant until you've capped all but two stats.

So... assuming you have someone with good stat growths - let's pretend Joe the Cavalier will almost always max out his Defense early on - it's actually more exploitable?

Exactly. Lots of units have great growths, but are weak on a couple key stats like strength or defense. BXP lets you smooth out these imperfections to maximize their potential, creating a glorious master race! It's more effective to do the more tiers the character is available for. Nolan and Edward are as Gods if you invest early in them.
