Forums - Sony - how come sony doesnt have titles like nintendo?

sony doesn't have titles like nintendo because simply put they are not nintendo. sony claims to have a 10 year plan but what they don't get is that what they are saying isn't a plan, it's a hope. imagine if the ps3 could not last for 10 years! sonny would lose so much money.

the wii is future proof because
1. new periferals like wii motion plus
2. dvds can be played with a firmware update. if nintendo wanted they could make blue-rays playable with a firmware update.
3. can use sd cards for unlimited swappable storage. the ps3 has only 20gb or 40gb of space when you run out you are screwed

so the wii is more future proof than sony

Whatever it is you are smoking, please pass it around.

2.  The wii does not have the hardware capable of playing blue-ray discs period.

3.  You can swap out the hard drives of a PS3.  Some have put 500gb drives in their PS3.  I'll take a 1TB hard drive myself anyday, over an SD card.

I seriously don't think many of the wii _gamers_ are going to be happy with wii capability 5 years from now.  They are going to want a Super Wii.  The PS3 on the other hand still has power that hasn't been utilized yet.

Cause Nintendo is good at advertising.

Why do people get off on Nintendo so much? I admit they make some great games at times and I've even enjoyed some of them, but everybody acts like they can do no wrong. Something to consider, how much of Nintendo's success with games is dependant on quality and how much is dependant upon people's initial perception of gaming? Case in point:

SSBB is "developed" by Sora with collaboration by Game Arts and other second and third party developers affiliated with Nintendo. Nintendo "published" the title. This is not the only title that Nintendo really has little to do with, the list is too long here.

Also consider Mario and Sonic at the Olympic games; this title has sold more than any other Sega title in the entire history of Sega. Is it their best title, *sounds buzzer*; but it has Mario in it and it's published by Nintendo, so it sells like crack.

My point here is simply this. Ever consider that Nintendo's success with their titles is merely because of the image they have taken in many people's minds because their interest in gaming spurred from Nintendo. As such, Nintendo has this key demographic locked up and the same type of titles don't sell nearly as well on any other systems, because the people who want those titles are with Nintendo. It's the same reason Halo or GTA wouldn't sell nearly as well on a Nintendo system.

Two minor problems with your post.

1.A lot of people on this thread are using first party and second party titles as examples and SSBB is definitely not a third party game.

2. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games is published by Sega outside Japan where it's sold the most of its copies. I do agree that its sale is completely helped by Mario though.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

There are targetting different demographics like mario is mainly for kids but everyone gets mario games.

@saicho. Thank you for the correction on Sega's publishing outside of Japan, I was not aware of that but it doesn't change my point. I am aware of the fact that Nintendo does still rely heavily on first and second parties to produce their games rather than outsourcing, however, once again this doesn't really change my point either.

It's not like their developers over the years even in their first party studios haven't changed. Sure they might have a few of the original crew around, but most of their developers are going to be fairly new, hired within the last five to ten years, but everybody acts like all their games are filled with the holy spirit of Miyamoto (or however you spell his name) and are simply blessed.

Now, I'm not denying that their games are good at times. I'm simply saying, it's not like all the credit should go to Miyamoto and Nintendo. And people need to do some more research into Nintendo's former policies, particularly their exclusive contracts in the past with the original NES, which are illegal today for good reason. There is a lot more to the story of Nintendo than people know and people should really know it before making up their minds that Nintendo is the hero of gaming.
