Why do people get off on Nintendo so much? I admit they make some great games at times and I've even enjoyed some of them, but everybody acts like they can do no wrong. Something to consider, how much of Nintendo's success with games is dependant on quality and how much is dependant upon people's initial perception of gaming? Case in point:

SSBB is "developed" by Sora with collaboration by Game Arts and other second and third party developers affiliated with Nintendo. Nintendo "published" the title. This is not the only title that Nintendo really has little to do with, the list is too long here.

Also consider Mario and Sonic at the Olympic games; this title has sold more than any other Sega title in the entire history of Sega. Is it their best title, *sounds buzzer*; but it has Mario in it and it's published by Nintendo, so it sells like crack.

My point here is simply this. Ever consider that Nintendo's success with their titles is merely because of the image they have taken in many people's minds because their interest in gaming spurred from Nintendo. As such, Nintendo has this key demographic locked up and the same type of titles don't sell nearly as well on any other systems, because the people who want those titles are with Nintendo. It's the same reason Halo or GTA wouldn't sell nearly as well on a Nintendo system.

Two minor problems with your post.

1.A lot of people on this thread are using first party and second party titles as examples and SSBB is definitely not a third party game.

2. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games is published by Sega outside Japan where it's sold the most of its copies. I do agree that its sale is completely helped by Mario though.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.
