Forums - Sales Discussion - The 360 a software monster? The Wii a software wimp? I don't think so...

The one thing that is known for certain is if you go to Metacritic and look at the 10 best games for each system then come over here and see the 10 best selling games on the systems, you'll find a lot of overlap between the best 360 games and the ones that have sold the most software.

On the other hand, if you do the same with the Wii only 3 of the games that are considered to be the Wii's best games are even in the Top 10 in Wii sales while the rest of the Wii's Top 10 best selling games tend to have a much lower Metacritic score than most of the games that make up the 360's bestselling games.

@BTFeather55: So 360 owners pay more attention to reviews then Wii owners and base their purchases on that?

Its more that reviewers who review Xbox 360/PS3 games are more alligned with the userbases of those platforms. When they review for the Wii they aren't reviewing the games for the Wiis userbase, more they are reviewing it to the same standards that they place on Xbox 360 and PS3 games and they miss the mark on the values that the Wii userbase in general have.

I believe that's what it says as Nintendo's strategy is to try to attract people that probably wouldn't have much to do with games in the first place.

I reckon that's pretty much on the money.  Most of the big review sites simply haven't go to grips with many Wii titles and how to evaluate them.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Its also a pity that the Xbox 360 others data is the most incomplete. The graphs would look a little different if it was.

Probably in order of bundling in terms of total software bundled, Nintendo probably leads the pack substantially. So I wonder what the data would look like without Wii Sports. The semi dubious nature of the Wii Play bundle probably evens things up inspite of its absence.

But neither of those games is one of the highest rated or best selling games  on the 360.  Like they would be on the Wii by people that really understand the Wii's audience.

Where you are wrong, is that the GameCube attach ratio ended at about 9.7 games per system... the PS2 is at about 10.5 to 11 games per system now.

Mind linking me to a source for that? It's not that I don't believe you, but the last figures I saw on the matter had the Gamecube where you're putting it, but the PS2 much lower than that. I'd never heard the figures you're citing.

PS2 data:
http://www.scei.co.jp/corporate/data/bizdataps2soft_e.html
(that's to the software production shipment page.... search the site for hardware info and for more recent sales (ie shipment to retail)

And the Nintendo data:
http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/library/historical_data/pdf/consolidated_sales_e0812.pdf

Something to note is that aligning launches (and still giving PS2 the advantage of 7-8 months in Japan) the Wii has a higher attach ratio than the PS2 did at the time.
