it would hurt both....also don't think Wii needs a price cut seeing it's weekly sales compared to ps3 and 360.

It would hurt Sony, not Microsoft..
Why?
Because it would only effect sales in Japan - everywhere else has limited supply still.
Also you're crazy :P
I doubt a Wii pricecut until it drops to ~130k in NA.
Why would they waste the pricecut now when they are doing so well?

There's no need for a cut in anywhere but Japan. If a cut comes, it'll affect Wii's sales in Japan only - everywhere else there will be either no or negative effect.
And when is that new Monster Hunter game coming out? I'm sure they'll wait and see how it affects their situation before doing anything. After all, they're still not doing bad.
Also, you're late.
Wait is this a joke thread?
Why would they want to 'hit hard' when they can maximise their profits? Remember their business model isn't the same as the HD twins, they don't see themselves as competeing so I think it would be a waste of a hundreds of millions in possible profits.
Nah, i doubt we'll see a price cut this year for the Wii. Some time ago i was wonderin if the Wii could go on through the whole generation without a price cut, but then i realized that it's only wishful thinking.
Remember that this is the Wii's third, by normal standards also the biggest in terms of sales, year on the market. If it's dominating so badly now without a price cut and manages to have an incredible year, then a price cut next year might lead to either the sales remaining on the same if not greater levels (instead of tampeing off).
If i lose access to this profile as well....I'm done with this site.....You've been warned!!.....whoever you are...
Happy Wii60 user. Me and my family are a perfect example of where hardcore meets casual and together mutate into something awesome.
I think that during the same moment in it's lifespan as the Wii is in now he Ps2 already had at least one price cut.
Can't actually remember, but i think that the price cut was about 50$ and was about 200$ overall by it's third year....but i seriously don't remember if that's accurate or not.

Even though Iwata has stated many times he doesn't like the idea of a price drop?
Wii is a revolution in more than just gameplay but also it's business model in the gaming industry.. I don't think price drops are part of that..
I mean they're gonna have Wii Sports Resort around mid year and to go and drop the price of Wii straight after that.. Then the rumoured Wii Fit Plus at years end.. Stack on all the other software coming Pikmin, Grand Slam Tennis etc.. I just don't think a price cut is what the Wii needs right now..
I think Nintendo will increase Wii sales YoY in 2009 and that's what drives share prices and market value - growth. If they want to maximise growth then they'll have to start looking at DS and how it would have been down this year had DSi not come out (still might be, who knows) and you have to look at the typical console cycle and think about what the general consumer habits are. Generally the peak is year 3 i.e. this year in terms of Wii and if Nintendo want to continue to drive overall growth while DS is sure to decline in 2010 then they have to look at pulling out aces like price drops in that year.
Nintendo are a fiscally conservative company and growth is a major factor in what they do.
Pricecut? only in Japan but I think they'll wait until new colors and DQX, Tales of grace orMH3 before even consider a pricecut.
If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing

And shepherds we shall be,
For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints
IMHO effect would be minimal if you are price consious buyer you are not going to be buying Wii anyway.
