Even though Iwata has stated many times he doesn't like the idea of a price drop?

Wii is a revolution in more than just gameplay but also it's business model in the gaming industry.. I don't think price drops are part of that..

I mean they're gonna have Wii Sports Resort around mid year and to go and drop the price of Wii straight after that.. Then the rumoured Wii Fit Plus at years end.. Stack on all the other software coming Pikmin, Grand Slam Tennis etc.. I just don't think a price cut is what the Wii needs right now..

I think Nintendo will increase Wii sales YoY in 2009 and that's what drives share prices and market value - growth. If they want to maximise growth then they'll have to start looking at DS and how it would have been down this year had DSi not come out (still might be, who knows) and you have to look at the typical console cycle and think about what the general consumer habits are. Generally the peak is year 3 i.e. this year in terms of Wii and if Nintendo want to continue to drive overall growth while DS is sure to decline in 2010 then they have to look at pulling out aces like price drops in that year.

Nintendo are a fiscally conservative company and growth is a major factor in what they do.
