Forums - Sony - So that's how you review Lair!

One thing you're all missing about this:

To design, print, and mail out something this extensive takes weeks at the very least. 4-6 weeks is the standard on a rush job of this size (trust me, I know... worked in a print shop for a few years and have been a designer for 8 years now).

Why is this important?

It's important because it means that Sony and Factor 5 knew that Lair would suck and get bad reviews so they tried to coerce reviewers with this pretty little package. Also remember that Lair's street date was broken last week and that this package coincides with its true launch date this week.

I was thinking about the same thing and was wondering why it wasn't just sent with the review copy.

With the rush job that was put behind this booklet, it's not surprising. Print jobs of this size are usually done with a specified printer who may or may not be in the country and are rarely "next door" to the company or whatever location Lair was pressed and shipped out of.

Meaning that once Lair's street date was broken, this booklet became not only worthless, but actually counterproductive because reviewers had already put their stamp on the game and seeing this after the fact is just a slap in the face to them.

If anything, they should have scrapped the booklet and called it a day.

Whether you like the game is irrelevant in this thread, you can't help but laugh at the garbage Factor 5 has been spewing in defense of their game and now this.

The big problem with Lair is that it seems to be counterproductive to the purpose of motion sensing. Nintendo's intention with the Wiimote was to make games easier to get into, and these hardcore reviewers have taken to the control done on the best Wii games, from Twilight Princess to Metroid Prime 3.

Now the possibility is there for the sixaxis, but if the controls are not intuitive, it defeats the purpose. It's like Red Steel 1 (hoping 2 had learned those lessons).

Yet I'm wondering how the controls for Lair could not be intuitive, at least for the flying (pull up/down, turn, bank, all just by making those motions). Are there actions that require the motion sensing where they don't fit?

EDIT: I mean, are there combat actions that don't work with the Sixaxis? Is precision aiming done, even though the sixaxis doesn't have a pointer? I want to know these details.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

Wow it really shows that none of these posters Have not Played this game. Sure it takes weeks to get the printing done but I am sure Factor 5 got some feedback with demos and made this. To be fair this is right on that fact that the reviews were out Teusday and most people didn't take the time to familiarize themself with the controls.

I have played the game the controls are not bad at all (everything I want to do I can do and the dragon responds acordingly) The sixaxsis is a great fit for the broader turning and swooping of the dragon. I would never recomend racing in motorstorm using the sixaxis but here in Lair I don't see what the issues are

your pitiful, look in the mirror, there isnt much more of a fanboy on here

With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Proud supporter of all 3 console companys

Game trailers-Halo 3 only dissapointed the people who wanted to be dissapointed.

Bet with Harvey Birdman that Lost Odyssey will sell more then Blue dragon did.

we are going what off every single reviewer has told us except the select 1 or 2 (play magazine)
