Forums - Gaming - Will Onlive get sued by Microsoft? (Onlive controller vs 360 controller)

@Megadude: I suppose you have point with showing a radically different controller than the other two, but I'm not really getting it :P

The only similarity I see between that controller and the other two is the disposition of the four buttons. The rest isn't even close.

Look at the color. Can ninteno sue MS for using the same color buttons? Can Nintendo sue MS for using L/R triggers? Can nintendo sue MS for having analog sticks? Rumble? The answer is no. The answer to the entire thread is no.

I wouldn't be surprised if the answer to the thread is no, but not for the reason you say. There's a big difference between using the same colors and copying almost the whole shape and button layout of a controller.

My Mario Kart Wii friend code: 2707-1866-0957

I don't know why, but I have some unexplained bias against Onlive. I really really hate it and want it to fail.

I don't understand why I feel this way yet, since I haven't delved into thought much, but I just have this unexplained hatred of the service.

The way I reacted to the blatant 360 controller ripoff made me realize this. Instead of thinking, "They're copying from my favorite traditional controller? Sweet," I thought, "I hope they get their asses kicked to the gutters and Marcus Fenix comes along to curbstomp their asses."

Yup.

wtf is onlive?

Gaming on a remote supercomputer using your crappy laptop or a little 'dongle' attached to your TV.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Why would they?

Just because the left analogue is above the d-pad?

Nahh.

More like because it's exactly the same with a different skin on top and some added buttons.

Granted I don't know much about how these laws work, but I heard that Microsoft's atrocious d-pad design is due to not being able to copy other controllers, so maybe Microsoft does have some grounds to sue?

Nope

Wow, even down to the colors of the buttons.  Looks like Microsoft was at least inspired by it, and changed just enough to not get sued.

I think they're more likely to be sued by Sony.

L1, L2, R1, R2?

I mean at least MS went with LB, LT, RB, RT.

It would be amusing if, due to a slight oversight, they got hit with a crippling lawsuit that saw the product pulled from the market.

I think the X360 controller is the best controller in gaming history.
