Forums - Sony - How is Sony Doing This?(game announcement, after game announcement)

Studios generally aren't closed/consolidated until after a major budget project fails to recoup development costs or meet expectations.

That being said, the scaling down effect won't be seen unless more of these failures become common.

Regardless, the important thing to note is that there is a big line up of quality titles in the works, and their respective development studios haven't been folding up tents contrary to what the naysayers have been predicting.

SONY had all you can smoke and drink party with some big name 3rd party studios a little while back... it all started from there....

It was only a matter of time, that's why I bought a PS3, did everyone forget the games that were on the PS2? (not talking about 3rd party).

After 2 and half years developers are getting quite use to the PS3 so it should be less and less problematic to work on (wasn't the PS2 really hard to develope games for when it first came out aswell?)

The Cell and Blu-ray helps a lot

The userbase is much larger and obviously will keep growing, even at the price the PS3 is at it's still managing over 150,000 a week. Can you imaging what a $50 or even $100 price cut will do for sales?

Developers see the potential in the PS3 because of MGS4, Killzone 2, God of War III, Infamous, Heavy Rain etc.

Edit: And about the money issue, It's a huge multi-billion dollar company, you don't think they can throw away 10 - 15 million to make a game that will probably make then 20 - 30 million? Right now there making most of there money off the games, so it makes sense for them to get as much games out there as possible.

^^^^^^^

Pretty much somes up my views.

Maybe this was SONYs plan all along... i really cant wait for the Pricecut or E3.

I'm wondering too, it's getting suspicious, maybe they've been making profits for years now and not telling us about it :D

Sony is doing all they can to maximize profits on PS3, doesnt take rocket science to figure that out.

PREDICTIONS:
(Predicted on 5/31/11) END of 2011 Sales - Xbox 360 = 62M;  PS3 = 59M;  Wii = 97M

But...  but it's last year's XBOX lineup...  How is that any different than the last few years?

I'm not knocking Sony...  I own a PS3, Wii, and 360...  It's just that I see nothing to be excited about in this thread.  I already own (and was dissapointed by) the biggest games announced... for the 360.

Give me a release date for GoW3 if you want me to give a damn.

I must have missed something... Doesn't Sony announce a bunch of games every year? There's not really anything for this year that's more impressive than last years announcements, and even with the sales losses they suffer each year (the only console to do so), they have consistently announced at least a handful of decent games each year, early on. MS won't show their hand until at least E3.

you ahven't paid attention then.

Last couple of weeks (PS3 only,,,PSP is too much to name)

The a large number of those titles are multiplatform

As soon I read that I ignored the rest assuming it was trolling as usual  >:|

How on earth is 2/10 are multiplatform considered a large number?? And people call you great spin or you claim to use logic!!! I say your forehead been tattooed "fail". Why even bother doing useless posts, is that what xbox fanboys really are???
(I said tattoed instead of written, because you're a guy who never change for the better )

Don't you see it getting old and it time for you to grow up! *sigh*

Anyway onto topic : Maybe this got to do with the 80% off dev kit lol

Until you stop cherry-picking ridiculously, there is little point in responding too you as though you wished to be taken seriously.

The a large number of those titles are multiplatform, others are ports of games that came out for the Xbox 360 long ago (akin to Eternal Sonata), some are tiny and insignificant and niche to the max (Katamari) and the only real acception to these rules are Mars (which looks OK, but doesnt look like a huge budget game by any stretch of the imagination), and Rachet and Clank, which will have been in development since Tools of Destruction was released, prior to Sony's financial troubles really beginning.

All in all, this is neither as costly for Sony or as beneficial to their game lineup as this thread implies.

Really? So they were working on Crack In Time whilst simultaneously creating Resistance 2 and Quest for Booty?

No.

On topic, PSP had a huge Japanese resurgence in 2008, hence all these Jap developers jumping behind it this year. PS3 also proved itself the breadwinner for some 3rd parties last year, so it's not being ignored anymore.

You're implying that they will create a AAA R&C title with less than two years of development?  You realise they are a fairly large studio right?

The thread directly implies that Sony has in some way pulled rabbits out of a hat despite their troubled financial state in order to produce announcements of high quality expensive games.

The fact that most of them are third party ports of games that already exist is pretty relevant.

This thread isn't implying 'high quality' games at all...

Hopefully people realise that so many great games are coming out, so that there is an increase in sales

...

Yeah, and there are a few more deulsional people in this thread who have gotten ahead of themselves. So yes, Sony's REALLY churning out those games, eh? ;)
