Look fellas, I understand the "wait and see" approach in some occassions, but the game has sold 20k total in 2 weeks in Others. It's not even in the top 40 anymore in the UK after only 2 weeks. It's already selling half as much this week as it sold last week, and while Wii games do tend to have longer legs, games like this do not.

It's almost inarguably a bomb. A dud. It also bodes very poorly for more games of its nature on the Wii, as it was clearly considered a trial by other publishers.

That's the way the cookie crumbles. No one likes admitting that their system of choice has flaws, but this is a fumble for the Wii.

Just be happy that the Wii has caught so many passes this generation. Can't win em all.

Bolded. Yup exactly where I was going with the Haze argument. The only thing that got me is that 360 and PS3 gamers are forced by some Ninty fans that there is no doubt one of their games failed. On the other hand Ninty fans will say otherwise about their games.

I am a Ninty fan but I by no means think they are invincible.

My bias is usually always based on the underdog. Last generation I was rooting for GameCube to come back. This generation it will be the PS3. Granted they will not finish first, it has never been a better time to be second than this generation. Since all systems this generation are doing quite well with each other than past generations.

Can we at least wait for NPD data before declaring the game a bomb?

Because its happened so many times on all systems that certain game has bombed because we simply didn't have the data then jumped to conclusions and acted like asses?

How will NDP change the Others numbers in Bods' post?

Anyway, I do agree that we should wait a bit longer before calling this title a dud.

This definantly doesn't help the argument that the Wii is for casual gamers, not hardcore :)

There is no argument for that, only the illusion by people trying to put down the Wii's success.

This game wouldn't have done much better on the 360 or PS3 either.

I'm happy with the Wii's success.

I think it could have sold better on the 360 or PS3 only because they would have hyped it more, but it would have sucked without the Wii controls.

The conduit will sell much better, I gaurentee. It's a much more marketable mainstream product than Madworld.

Here's the deal. Madworld is a very niche game. Sales wouldn't be that good on any system. That's a strike against it.

Another huge problem is the length, or should I say lack of length. Someone like me, that was genuinely interested in buying this game, has been turned off by the fact that the game can be finished in three and a half hours. I'm sorry, but I'm not going to throw down 50 dollars on a game that short. I'm guessing that others felt this way too.

Despite everything that I said above, I wouldn't be shocked if it sold half a million copies and I'm sure that Sega would be more than happy with that considering it's minute budget.

I do wish that reviews wouldn't place quite so much emphasis on how fast the game *can* be finished, as I find it bears very little relationship to how long I actually spend playing them - and is generally understated.

Maybe some exceptionally skilled players who have no interest in anything but reaching the credits as fast as possible will do it that fast, but it really doesn't help the average gamer in deciding on a game.

Here's some examples from my playing:

Twilight  Princess: stated as 40 hours, my actual 120 hours

Endless Ocean: often quoted as 7-10 hours, my actual 500+ hours (actually possible to reach credits in just over two hours, but that is totally misleading)

Deadly Creatures: stated as about 6 hours, my actual 20  hours so far and going back for more

So, for Madworld ... who knows?

I have heard from several people on this site that the game takes about five hours.  I normally don't care about game length but I'm not going to spend $50 on a five hour game.  That is a rip off to me.  If someone else feels that it isn't they can go and buy it.  I was just stating my personal feelings about it.

I couldn't agree more with Bod. This game just didn't do well. End of story. Yes, it's possible for games to struggle with sales on the Wii too. And frankly, I posted (several times!) months ago that this game was not going to sell well at all. Classic case of expectations and Internet hype misleading people.

What really makes me said is the bolded line above. I can't understand why anyone would try to use Madworld as a "test" for Wii sales. Seriously - THIS game?! Madworld is the antithesis of everything I look for in a game: extremely short, little replay value, and gory violence for violence's sake. I simply can't fathom why the gaming industry gave this game a bunch of 9s in their review scores. Only teenagers would think this game is awesome... oh, wait, I forgot that the entire traditional gaming industry is based on catering to that audience, sigh...

Anyway, to cut this short, stop making excuses for Madworld sales. It's a horribly violent game - honestly, what were you expecting? Manhunt didn't exactly light up the charts on PS2 either.

Oh, amp, I certainly didn't mean to criticize you!

I half expected some response along the lines of what a rotten gamer I am ... but all I'm saying is just because people say it's a five hour game doesn't mean that it is. Not for me anyhow.

So my buying decisions tend to be based more on whether the game looks interesting enough to hold my attention rather than whatever length people claim for it.

I don't criticze people on their gaming abilities.  I'm not the greatest gamer in the world myself.  :p The game looks interesting to me but I'll wait for a price drop.

I think you can usually gauge the sales of games supposedly targetting core/hardcore by the percentage of console owners that actually purchased it on this site as people here are a lot more hardcore than the huge majority of the console owners.
It seems not that many Wii owners on VGChartz are actually enthusiastic about the game and purchased it so it's no surprise it hasn't sold like hot cakes so far....

Everyone on VGChartz purchasing it doesn't necessary mean the game will sell millions but if even the people here are reluctant to buy it that doesn't bode well for sales...

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !
