Forums - Sales Discussion - Super Mario Galaxy week one sales in Japan (it launches Nov 1, 2007)

Zelda never sold well in Japan, so Towairaito Purinsesu doesn't mean much here.

I'm guessing SMG will sell at least 500k on its first week in every region. It might do even better, but there's a lot of competition this year. Mario is still head and shoulders above the competition, but not by as much as he would've been last year.

775k or so the first week and atleast 2m by the end of the year.

Hi, this is Vince with Shamwow.

If all goes to plan, 925,000.

At least 500k. No more than 2M.

Well I think a good example right now is that New Super Mario Bros when it launched sold close to 1 million in its first week. And although their are huge differences in userbase between DS and Wii at their respective times of launches, the fanbase isn't going to change.

So I'd say anywhere from 700k to 800k in the first week for Galaxy in Japan is a good estimate. And sales of Wii will simply depend on how many Nintendo pump out for that specific week. But should be a lot with the big release plus it's November.

Im going with 550k You guys expecting 1m first week are insane. theres a 3.8m userbase. They are not going to sell to over 25% of the userbase in one bloody week. People are referencing NSMB as a reason why Galaxy will blast the doors off week 1, but the amazing thing about NSMB isnt neccesarily its opening week but how LONG it remained on the charts selling respectably. The same will be the case here, 550k or so first week, then a long long truck on the charts down the line.

If heavily advertised, 600k. If not, 400k.

Nobody is crazy enough to accuse me of being sane.

743,917 units in Week 1.

I just felt like being precise =P But anyways, I think it will be interesting as some people have mentioned motion sickness issues with the Japanese (no clue how true this is btw) so if that is true sales could potentially dissapoint but I would think the lower end is going to be 450k at worst.

To Each Man, Responsibility

At first, I thought getting motion sickness playing video games was ridiculous, but after watching some full-screen Galaxy footage, I can see how people can get sick. Seeing Mario run upside-down and sideways can be a bit disorienting.

I think Mario Galaxy will sell around 600,000 - 700,000 first week and continue to sell extremely well with its long ass legs.
