Forums - Sales Discussion - Justify your console purchase to a starving person

Haha, how ironic.

Communisthater wants us to ignore what the free market would have us do, and do something communist/socialist and give a bunch of money to others.

Communism is the Government forcing you to give.

It would be nice for someone so passionate about something, to atleast have a good understanding of what they are so passionate about.

In both Communism and Capitalism, the government forces you to give to others.  American tax dollars already go to feeding hungry, supporting government owned programs, and so forth.  The only difference is magninitude, in the Soviet Union, there was a 80% tax on private goods produced, the government owns all land, and the government owned all large businesses.  In the United States we tax over 10% of private goods, the government owns 1/4 of all land (last estimate I heard, includes continental shelf, public parks, and roads), and the government owns a limited number of businesses with the option to take businesses over.  Europe and China is a more moderate example of this.

In the United States the government forcefully takes money and gives it to the poor.

In the Soviet Union the government forcefully takes more money and gives it to the poor.

Taxes are the price we pay for civilization. - Holmes

When i bought the console i gave someone else money so they can eat as well.

I don't have to.

A starving person shouldn't judge you from spending some money on yourself. Additonally, video gaming is rather cheap in money/hour. Frankly, justyfying getting a child rather than adopting a starving one would make much more sense.

A starving person should judge you from how much you have given (not necessarily spent) to others.

Just want to add one other thing...

If you've earned lots of money, you shouldn't feel guilty by not giving more to to charity than other people - you already have. By earning lots of money, you've been productive. You've also paid bigger taxes than most other people, which is essentially giving money to the government, which uses the money to help other people. (God... That was some crappy writing at the end).
