@post3 No thats not true you could take all your money buy tons of rice/wheat and bring it directly to the starving people in Somalia (or somewhere else). That could do everyone but only some people do that. And I think that if the people that are starving right now would be rich and you would be starving they wouldnt come to you as well. Thats not because the people are bad in general but they just cant imagine how bad this really is. |
Good Points
Repent or be destroyed
@OP
Explain your console purchase to a starving person is like saying:
Explain your ignorance to a smart person!
I kid, I kid.

Is it harder to give a large percentage when your rich or poor?
Probably when you are poor.

Poor, what I make is low enough to not give much room to spend much on anything other than the essentials...
Rich people can still live off of half of their millions of dollars >_>
(also, yay for contradicting myself and answering it =p)

for one thing, your nickname says one thing, your thread title hints at another....
secondly I say to starving people... well nothing because I'm not starving, I work, I pay my taxes, they can go starve elsewhere, I don't have to justify my hobby, or any other part of my life to anyone.
Currently dreaming of: DKC4 or Sonic the Hedgehog 4 (classic 2D platformers) for WiiWare, Smash Bros. for DSi, New Super Mario World for DSi, a Wii remake or true sequel of Final Fantasy Tactics.
One down, hopefully more awesomeness to come.

So only 10 cents out of every dollar? Hmm, doesn't seem like very much........at least it doesn't seem enough for you to come on here and attempt what seems to be preaching. Perhaps your time could be better spent out there on the streets helping starving people, instead of inside your warm home, sitting on a chair, on a computer (by the way, did you ever justify that to a starving person?) logged onto vgchartz. Just a suggestion.

my mother would be proud of you
my father would say that's a pretty big tax write off
and my grandfather would say (and I quote) "goddam son, why are you even workin if your gonna give it all away"
but my real question is whether you donate all that to charity because you really want to help people, or is it just because you want other people to think you really give to shits. (Hint, go with number 2 it goes better with your nickname)

Interesting thread...
I'm going to have to go with scottie's answer. I'm an independent student and do not have much money to spare. I set money aside for the Wii before it launched because it helps relieve stress. I disagree with you making it sound value-less while giving the other 2 consoles 'valid' reasons for their purchase. Especially since the other two started out more expensive. Furthermore, giving money is not the only way a person can help others.
