i like a fast, twitchy shoter every once in a while they make me feel better. although i really hate all third person shooters.

It's too bad that RPG and adventure elements never became common place in the FPS genre, maybe it wouldn't be so stale.

Yup - if more people had bought Deus Ex, System Shock, etc that would have shaken things up more.  Still, with Bioshock success I hope to see more hybrid games appearing.  I love the immersion of the first person perspective and just don't see why it isn't used for more than just shooters.

Mirror's Edge was another breath of fresh air, it's just a pity they so focused on the running they missed a great chance at a deeper story and a broader set of game mechanics.  I was expecting to get into buildings then snoop around, spy on people and follow them, etc.  but in the end 95% of the game was built around a narrow plot then getting you to run.

CoD4 is anything but generic. Do you know how many future games will be based off of it because it was so evolutionary?

Its sequels like World at War that piss me off, same game different time period. It brought nothing new to the series.

I rarely play shooters myself, and only buy the big brands.

I know how you feel, but I still am enjoying Killzone 2 a lot. The story is pretty good, and the multiplayer is very addictive, so it's good enough for me.

I love the co-op in Resistance 2 though, especially with the new difficulty level.

It's easier to say what can make a shooter generic than what makes it non-generic. This is typically how I phrase it, with apologies to Jeff Foxworthy:

• If your shooter takes place on another planet, in space, in Hell, or in war-torn Europe, it might be generic.
• If your shooter's enemies are zombies, aliens, demons, or Nazis, it might be generic.
• If your shooter's main character is a prisoner, a soldier, or the last known survivor of the apocalypse, it might be generic.
• If your shooter's color scheme is dominated by gray, green, or brown, it might be generic.
• If your shooter's list of weapons can be described as a melee weapon, a pistol, a shotgun, a rapid-fire gun, an explodey weapon that bounces, an explodey weapon that flies, a really fast gun, a sniper rifle, and a BFG, it might be generic.
• If your shooter's main character is not designed to interact with any of the game's NPCs except to kill them, it might be generic.
• If your shooter's largest audience is younger than its content rating says it's suitable for, it might be generic.

The problem is that you play too much FPS, you should try different genres of games I try playing arcade games puzzle games once in a while
