Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo: core gamers can`t never be satisfied

@ Kyliedog, that has to be one of the silliest things i've heard from you. Core from the word hardcore has nothing to do with the difficulty of a game.

If anything, it should be about the different way that a core game is going compared to a casual game. How can you say that SMG and SSBB are not core games? What about NMH? MP3? Maybe Resident Evil?

When comparing these kind of games to wii fit, wii music, the petz series and other casual games you mean to tell me that you don't see a difference? If that's the case you had better go see an eye docter.

If i lose access to this profile as well....I'm done with this site.....You've been warned!!.....whoever you are...

Happy Wii60 user. Me and my family are a perfect example of where hardcore meets casual and together mutate into something awesome.

Oh oh double negative in title. What does that mean? I think it means there is never a time core gamers are not satisfied so core gamers are always satisfied.

Anyway hated the interview. She asks a question and before interviewer can respond she interrupts him.

The reason core gamers are not satisfied is because since Brawl and Mario Kart all the way back in April/May there has no major 1st party game. If Nintendo had given us something such as Pikmin 3 at Christmas rather that Wii Music and a port of a DS game and ports of Gamecube games there would have been much less disatisfation.

This thing was hard to read. What a weird way to construct those sentences...

I already mentioned to do with player skill influences on peformance and what it takes to master game.  Re-read.

The relationship between a game's difficulty and its adherence to core values is somewhere between "incidental" and "imaginary", leaning toward the latter.

It reminded me a lot PRC government statements and piloted interviews about Tibet or human rights...

You need to re-read what I wrote also. You are misunderstanding difficulty.

You are misunderstanding "definition", apparently, because that is not what core means.

Seconded.

Honestly Kylie, what are you doing??

In Nintendo's language, there is no classification of casual or bridge. If a game appeals to those who already play games, it is a core game. If it appeals to non gamers it is called an extended audience game. Any language other than this was created by fanboys who wish to insult the Wii

I bet lots of people like to label Mario Galaxy as a core game.  Core games have real challenge, either by default or as an option.

There is no challenge to the game at all, is has been casualised/dumbed down/made too easy (bits of each).  Bridge game.

Same for Brawl compared to Melee.  Very dumbed down and casualised.

Two examples, doesn't mean they are bad games, just not the core games they should be.  I didn't make a blanket statement, I acknowledged the Wii has some core games, but not nearly enough and they aren't all top class games either.

For another great example of games being dumbed down for the Wii compare HotD 2+3 Return (a port of games from other consoles) to HotD Overkill.   Overkill is very dumbed down.  Along with various gameplay alterations the overall difficulty is terrible.  Overkills hardest difficulty is far far far easier than 2+3 Return on easiest.

I have to wonder if you think Galaxy was easier than SM64 then, because to me it certainly wasn't.

Haha, just got to love the ownage in the interview. Especially when Denise calls out the interviewer on moving the goals before he even has the opportunity.
+10 for Denise.

Also, she's just validating what i have said a couple of times, that Nintendo wants the core audience to play the blue ocean games just as well.

@Kylie: By SSBM and SSBB skill difference you are meaning molesting the bugs in order to win. The thing is, that Brawl has more depht in its gameplay and the bugs in Melee fixed. The complains about "Brawl not requiring as much skill as Melee" is there only because of the nerds aren't able to pwn noobs by learning to take advantage of bugs and are forced to learn how to actually play the game.

Also, Galaxy is harder than Sunshine (FLUDD made Sunshine a bit too easy). Both do suffer from the "3D syndrome" where you can beat the game just by sinking enough time to it, just like any other 3D game there is.

The definition of core pretty much describes the existing audience, and this is the thing where Riot hit the spot. Who and what the core is, changes all the time. And, core has nothing to do with hardcore.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

Nintendo fans are mostly satisfied it's other ones who do the most complaining, you know the ones who don't even own a Wii.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

Hardcore used to be gamers and not games. So, people like those guys in The King of Kong who competed for the highest score in the world in Donkey Kong they are hardcore gamers. Athenewins is a hardcore gamer after setting all the records in World of Warcraft. If someone is playing Wii Sports or Wii Fit hours every day and unbeatable at the games or in how fit they've become, then they are hardcore Wii Fit and Wii Sports gamers.

Now the term core itself the way it is being used is a rather new phenomena that stems basically just from last E3 when Nintendo issued a statement that they were going to be showing off lots of games for the core gamer. And gamers and Nintendo must have had a different opinion on what that term meant. Gamers were expecting a new Kid Icarus, Mario, Zelda, or Earthbound to be demonstrated, and what they got instead was Animal Crossing which does have some appeal to core gamers and Wii Music which was supposably more for everybody (and in Nintendo's opinion, everybody = the core gamer).
