Cooling by natural convection? As someone who had to take heat transfer courses for my degree, I say that's very impressive.

Can we get more storage first and then when you release these new Wii's bring out the coloured models, like Black and Silver ones.
Thats really impressive. for a system that hardly uses up power. reducing it to the 65nm process will significanly reduce the costs, the chances of breaking down, ad not to mention make more money and possibly bring back the increased price down in europe.

@theRepublic: Well, considering that WiiConnect24 uses 10W and is naturally cooled, shrinking the die would take the power consumption close to that ten watts, when you would only need to increase the mass of the heatsink.

I know.
It's still impressive that the new Wii, when fully on, will be running on less power than most CFLs.

It seems Nintendo is a lot behind shrinking CPU and GPU. At the same time Sony and MS are moving to 45nm chips.

Convection cooling still sucks air through, just a lot slower. The bottom to top movement might help keep dust out, but it won't eliminate the problem.
Apple's G3 iMac line was convection cooled for several revisions. They ran as silent as the grave when the drives weren't spinning. The Wii should be even easier to cool, since it has no hard drive heat to worry about. Standing the Wii vertically will probably be a requirement for a convection cooled Wii. Air flow control is very important for that technique.

"The worst part about these reviews is they are [subjective]--and their scores often depend on how drunk you got the media at a Street Fighter event." — Mona Hamilton, Capcom Senior VP of Marketing
