Forums - Sales - Madworld debuts 12K IN OTHERS!70k 1 week!Your Thoughts??

Dinomax said:
Never, ever, judge first week sales (let alone two days) especially on the Wii since so many times games that were declared bombs shot up quicker than a junky.

Ill give you that. I say we all wait and see in about 2 months where Mad world stands, I like what the devs did with this artistically and I hope it finds success.

It just seems compared to the 360 SW sales and the other AAA games on the Wii seem to sell a bunch load so Mad world's sales seem a bit underwhelming.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

I think it'll sell 50k-60k first week ,this's better than i thought. :)

As for Madworld, i don't think anyone should expect high sales for the title. After all, it's black and white (and red) and excessive violence plays the main part in the game. That's not really what people want to play.
In reference, Manhunt 2 sold around 250k copies and i don't think Madworld is going to do much better, it will end up to some hundreds of thousands.
I also believe that Segas expectations aren't too high either.

@Cueil: I doubt the game had done better on PS360. If we look at last gens "platform for violent games", Manhunt 2 sold around 250k copies on PS2, which should be indicative about how well games with violence as their idea is perceived by gamers.

@oyvoyvoyv: That was pretty good sum-up, but unless you were sarcastic with who's killing 3rd parties, it's the 3rd parties themselves.

@ShadowSoldier: The problem really is, that just because a game is "hardcore" doesn't mean that the "hardcore" likes the game. That's pretty much the same stupid mindset as saying that "the casual is buying shovelware because the shovelware is casual".

There are lots of "hardcore" games that nobody is buying because:
1. They suck.
2. They don't get enough peoples attention.
3. There are plenty of better games available.

And, another "hardcore" and "casual" split problem is, that there doesn't seem to be any kind of standard, or terms, that could be used as meter to classify a gamer (and even more a game) to either category (and even more so that you wouldn't continously need to make exceptions or change the classification).

Ei Kiinasti.

Eikä Japanisti.

Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

Maybe my memory is just bad, but I seem to recall many people claiming that MadWorld would see lifetime sales in the 500,000 to 1 Million range and would struggle like No More Heroes, Okami and Killer 7 did in a large part due to its art style ... As many people have already pointed out, games have had much worse first week sales on the Wii and sold at or above these expectations so it really depends on how well Madworld sells over the next several months to see whether it lived up to expectations or not.

I love how people will sit there and list games that are either A) Casual, or B) From an existing IP and try to use that to reason why this game will continue to sell.

Instead of looking at the precedent set by Ultra-Hardcore games on the Platform that are new or small IPs that have not sold well. Yeah, FPSs like CoD can open small and have legs, but that's' because it's frickin CoD. Hugest FPS franchise out there. And of course lightgun games do good on the platform, but against the other games that share the same genre and new IP status, the games tank. This game is not going to do a million or 500k or anything like that, but I don't think SEGA expected it too.

Simply, Wii Fanboys really have too high hopes for these types of games, and are now turning to each and every excuse to why it's doing okay, when every game comes out in UK on friday, and has only 2 days of sales.

Saddening that Wii Fans just can't take it when a game doesn't do good, and doesn't have legs, since it puts a hole in the argument that every dev should be busting the door down to develop on the system.

So

So we're already passing judgment on the game's legs now?

Hm. I've seen commericials for this on TV. Did HOTD have commericials in the US? Pretty low sales imho, but to be expected for what I saw at retail.

It's just that simple.

Dont know about the attack on the Wii fanboys but I completely agree with the man and his first 2 paragraphs. Just though I'd say it.

Elaine: I will never understand people

Jerry: They're the worst.

And just like Dinomax, when they can't say anything about that they go crazy and start something like that.

Remember Killzone 2 about "It had only 2 days" so its not just Wii users.
Still it did 350k america alone.
