Forums - Microsoft - If you recently upgraded your 360 hard drive ...

So I decided to upgrade my PS3's 20gb hard drive.

Here's the deal - I bought a 120gb SATA drive off craigslist for $30. Didn't feel like spending much more for this experiment, but said 'It's just 30 bones.' Got the drive home and looked online to see what I needed to do to upgrade it. It was painless and actually fun. Rebooted the PS3 and viola - the new drive was spotted and I was asked to reformat it.

So, I took it out, tossed my old drive back in and used the backup utility to copy all my stuff from my 20gb to a USB drive. After that, I put the new drive in, installed the backup and I'm back, with about 87gb free.

Here's my question - why in the devil does MS have to make it so expensive and difficult to upgrade the 360? I do think MS should do what Sony did in this instance - allow any type of hard drive similar to the OEM one and let folks upgrade until their hearts desire. Plus, I used a standard USB 2.0 cable and a laptop drive enclosure, and a 20gb drive, to transfer my stuff to the new drive.

I know I was fortunate to find a transfer cable, but this really ticks me off. With Sony's method (if you have a big enough thumbdrive or portable drive), you'd spend $50 for the drive and time. With MS, you have to buy the drive, get the transfer cable, then contact them and let them know you have installed your games on a new system.

MS really, really dropped the ball on this one.

Money seems like the only reason to me.

We know they have THEIR reasons, whether they agree with us or not.

Personally, I'm still using my original 20gb and have basically gotten use to 'managing' the space. Do I like it? No. But I cope. And I honestly haven't personally run into any situation where I was completely screwed with space problems.

Well seeing that Microsoft is making money with it and Sony isn't... Microsoft is right... Like the memorycards last gen.. Must have made Sony millions of yen... they were expensive.. couldn't hold much.. but still you bought them... sucks for us but hey.. that's life..

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

because the 60GB HDD is enough. You don't need to upgrade as a premium or elite user. A 20GB PS3 more or less needs an upgrade. I mean, playing Resident Evil 5 and Devil May Cry, more than half of the space is gone.

On the other hand, the arcade version is so cheap, that a lot of gamers can jump in. If they like what they see and they want to get onlive, then get the XBox Live starter pack with 3 month of Xbox Live Gold, a 60GB HDD, a headset and a ethernet cable for 99USD. It is not THAT expensive.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

How do you think they can make 2 price drop in Europe in 1 year ?

Whatever, it is quite accepted that u get more for ur money if u buy a PS3 (in term of hardware I mean) than a xbox360

Time to Work !

Very annoying that M$ do that, I cannot afford any of their new HDDs even though I do really want to expand. You also can't just use a USB stick to copy stuff around, such as gamesaves for PES (I want to download an option file with all the kits)

I upgraded to a 60gig from a 20gig 360. I have a shitload of Arcade games, and I did everything imaginable to have those games on a second hard drive (so I could give them to my sister). Microsoft thwarted me at every turn. There's no cheating those guys. That's why they did what they've done. DRM.......and greed.
