So I decided to upgrade my PS3's 20gb hard drive.

Here's the deal - I bought a 120gb SATA drive off craigslist for $30. Didn't feel like spending much more for this experiment, but said 'It's just 30 bones.' Got the drive home and looked online to see what I needed to do to upgrade it. It was painless and actually fun. Rebooted the PS3 and viola - the new drive was spotted and I was asked to reformat it.

So, I took it out, tossed my old drive back in and used the backup utility to copy all my stuff from my 20gb to a USB drive. After that, I put the new drive in, installed the backup and I'm back, with about 87gb free.

Here's my question - why in the devil does MS have to make it so expensive and difficult to upgrade the 360? I do think MS should do what Sony did in this instance - allow any type of hard drive similar to the OEM one and let folks upgrade until their hearts desire. Plus, I used a standard USB 2.0 cable and a laptop drive enclosure, and a 20gb drive, to transfer my stuff to the new drive.

I know I was fortunate to find a transfer cable, but this really ticks me off. With Sony's method (if you have a big enough thumbdrive or portable drive), you'd spend $50 for the drive and time. With MS, you have to buy the drive, get the transfer cable, then contact them and let them know you have installed your games on a new system.

MS really, really dropped the ball on this one.
