Well, even if it's not very impressive compared to CE2, it doesn't mean it's not impressive compared to other engines. CryEngine 2 is still easily the most impressive engine on the market (CE3 isn't on the market yet), and its only drawback is its high system requirements. Anyway, right now hardware is the limiting factor; there isn't much room for improvement until devs learn the systems even better than now. |
Honestly, hardware is only limiting the consoles, not the PC. Basically they spent 2 years keeping tech at a level when the hardware is getting better and better. You don't even need a super expensive PC to run CryEngine 2 now. Would have been better if they had worked on their AI or making a noticeable difference on CryEngine 2 (iono how they'd manage that, honestly).

First off; I don't need good looking shit games and secondly; Source Engine 2 will beat this to death instantly and will actuallt be used in good games (epic games, even).

those particle effects and explosions effects are just insane !!!!!!
miles better than KZ2 (which is the best right now) and they look like the particle and explosions effects from the Killzone 2 E3 2005 CGI trailer which is just crazy !!!!!!!!
really impressed with this engine hope to see games on it soon for the consoles

No one knows for sure, there were some pics a while back alledgedly from SE 2 but they were a hoax as it turned out. HL 2 Episode 3 will run on the modified Source Engine and a game called Zeno Clash that is due shortly is also using a heavily updated version of it. It still looks terrific and performs well to this day with physics that have not yet been matched or beat so there's no rush for Valve to get the second engine out.
If I were to make a guess I'd say there's a good chance we'll see the first glimpse of Source Engine 2 mid-to late 2010 with the first game(s) using it in 2011 at the very earliest!

Hopefully that game is Half Life 3.
man that's really impressive for a console engine, I can see why they didn't show the PC one though, it most likely looks a lot better so they can't really show that with the console version lol. It doesn't look as good as Crysis on PC, but it's really really impressive on the consoles, did I mention I'm really impressed? lol XD
