Forums - Sales - Microsoft's Multi-Platform Sales Trend Majorly Declining

You've gotta be shitting me.

Anyone with an understanding of primary school math should understand this.

In 2006, there were no multiplat games. The 360 owned all.

In 2007, the PS3 had sold few consoles and was doing poorly. The 360 had a console ration of 4:1, or 80%:20%.

Today, the conoles ratio is closer to 3:2, or 60% to 40% - despite the fact that MS's overall lead has remained fairly constant.

This isn't a matter of some surprising failure on MS's part - it a matterof the math working out the way it should be expected to.

MLB2k is the stand out title on the 360, but a bit misleading seeing as most PS3 owners that want a baseball game go with the Sony exlcusive MLB The Show. Though I suppose from take-two's perspective that doesn't matter.

Nothing like using percentages to make a point about volume. The obvious problem with the charts is they are percentage based. The 360 isn't outselling the ps3 2:1 so software sales will not trend that way. The graph fails to show that the 360 software sales continue to increase.

Had the maker of the charts spent more time discussing the positves of both consoles he would have looked like less of a complete douche.

FF XIII will sell better on PS3. There is no way it will sell better on the xbox. Maybe it will sell better in NA but WW no way in hell.

Its not even being released in Japan on the 360 so why should you count the ps3's?  I'm guessing it will win hands down in america, and europe will be neck and neck.

GO PS3!!!

These charts all seem to be ratio and percentage. What are these ratios valuing the games sales percent of each platform or their respective sales on the the platform.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

I think this is the most telling chart.  The 2008 PS3 sales outsold the 2007 360 software sales.  Not bad for the second year in the console lifetime.  Regardless of how you guys want to slice the data, it is clear that the PS3 pushes as much software as the 360 (percentage of console sales).  Also, it seems like you guys forget about the year + headstart when you discuss console sales, but are able to remember clearly when it may benefit your argument.  The software gap is going to narrow even further in 2009.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

The ratio is going down.  I believe what this is attributed to is the reality that the market for next gen is coming along, as more and more titles people want to play are released.  This means the market is increasing.  The size of the lead, as a percentage, is decreasing, as seen.  End result is the margin between sales on both systems is decreasing.  And, if you factor in top-selling brands, then it should be more equal.

Will likely win by a decent margin in North America on the 360.  Japan is all PS3 (no 360 release of it there).  In Other, look for it to be competitive.  If the game is all that in Japan still, then look for the PS3 version to win worldwide.  If not, it will look to be close.
