Gotta love MikeB! He turns good things into bad, and bad things into good! Like the Star Ocean 4 debut on the 360 that did incredibly well for a JRPG. it was #1 in Japan first week, Mikey, and only released in NA on February 24th, so only 4 days worth of data for the NPD. SO 4 was not even in the 360's top 10 I don't think many people really care about multi-disc games, especially not Final Fantasy/JRPG fans! Especially if there is some long installations needed for the PS3 version, I'd take 4 discs and a total of 1 minute lost to disc swapping over anywhere between 10-45 minutes of installs depending on how it ends up being. Well, SE's recent SO 4 had 3 discs, and you have to swap between them multiple times as you have to go back to disc 1 if you want to return to that area. Of course the same thing could happen in FF XIII, but it is unlikely. More likely about 6 discs. Killzone 2 beat out a game that only managed a bit over a million LTD so far? GASP NO WAYS! Not sure why you even bring up Killzone 2 sales. For the trumpeted AAA game on the PS3 that it is, it doesn't seem to be faring much better than Resistance 2, which is quite sad, really. Uncharted has sold 2.6m, 2m before the holiday season which included some bundling I think in the US it will be similar to the Resident Evil 5 ratio, and the rest of the world will likely make the PS3 version sell more. But who cares?!? Just having the ability to buy it and play it on a 360 is a losing situation for Sony and a winning situation for me |
| Rei said: 360 version being multi-disc does matter as FFXIII isnt going to sell to jRPG nerds exclusively, it's going to sell to mainstream audience, and they probably care about such things. But then again, I doubt 360 version being multi-disc will be made widely known, most people will only realize that once they open the box. |
The only people who actually care about disc swapping are the fanboys of the opposite console. And since when does FFXIII sell to mainstream audiences? It will sell to JRPG/RPG fans almost exclusively. Sure there maybe some people who only get a rare RPG that pick it up, but not people who only play shooters or action or racing games.
@Gilgamesh
But Final Fantasy games do very well in the west. It's not like those other games you just quoted which for the most part have fallen into obscurity. With the exception of unreal which came out like 6 months to a year before the 360 version. This may be the first FF that xbox gets, but they never had a devil may cry before and that still sold better on the 360 in America, not by as much as they should have with the marketshare, but it was still a very good margin.
@ nightsurge
I don't think anyone here really thinks a PS3 exclusive version of the 360's SO4: Last Hope, would have performed worse for Japan than the 360 version did. From a consumer perspective SE's decision was IMO poor to say the least.
IMO Killzone 2's first 2 days NA sales were actually solid and I think this game will have legs like Uncharted did.

@Nightsurge
yes it is true about the SO4 disc swapping multiple times throughout the game. It is one of the reason's it got such poor review scores.

That's your opinion, but I have a feeling the opposite will happen. Killzone 2 was a great game, no doubt, but only selling 3 million worldwide after a few years on the market is pretty much a disappointment in my eyes (for such a hyped exclusive), and I have a feeling the sales will only diminish even more rapidly given the slow time of the year, and by the time the spending picks up, newer titles will be out.
@Nightsurge
This is from the IGN review of SO4.
iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.
Currently playing:
Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Yeah, Star Ocean 4 sold well for a 360 RPG, but terribly for main Star Ocean.
