Forums - Nintendo - Theory: Nintendo holding back Wii announcements to give DS the last push.

they may not need to release new games but not all their games are gunna shift systems. S&P, punchout, excitebots arnt going to move units so theres no point delaying until sales start to drop. thats basically applicable to most of their games. wii sport resort will be the major hardware shifter and the only one they need. theyll keep chugging out games like they always do. iirc were getting 5 wii games and 2 DS gamems in the next quarter. 7 games in 3 months isnt a bad output even if 2 of them are remakes

Iwata recently said that he expects the DS to sell 150 million. If, by your logic they were cutting off the DSL, he would be off 50%--I seriously doubt that's the case.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

"Ok, girl's trapped in the elevator, and the power's off.  I swear, if a zombie comes around the next corner..."

Hang on, so are saying this is the final push of the DS, meaning you think they are going to replace it (with DS 2)... I assume I am misunderstanding you

Who said they were cutting the DSL??????
The DSi will be taken as part of the DS family. They need to push the DS strongly, as this is obviously the last HW overhawl they are giving the DS. 100 million already, 50 more to go but with a new model, that's highly feasable. And the fact still stands, Nintendo and other companies are going to make DSi specific games outside of the DSiware ones.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Fullfilled Prophecies

Not only are they not ending the DS's life, which makes it ridiculous to say they are making a last push of any sort, but even if they were all that means is that they'd have to focus more resources on the next platform. In no way can DS games explain the lack of Wii games. The DS will continue, DSi specific games will probably be few and far between, and the Wii will get games when it gets them.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

A little under a year ago, Nintendo began implementing a new policy with announcements: you don't announce anything until it's essentially ready to release. The reason for this was simple: eliminate complaints about delays by making sure no one sees any delays ever again. By the time the announcement comes, the delays are already finished.

But anyway, if you want to know why there haven't been as many Wii announcements by Nintendo, this is why. Anytime a company does this, there will necessarily be a gap in time where they have a bunch of games deep in development but not ready as per the new policy, but they've already released (or very nearly released) all of the games they announced under the old. Given that Nintendo seems to spent 2-3 years on an average game, it should come as no surprise that we're still in this gap when it hasn't even been one year yet. The number of games in development is probably about the same as it was before.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

@Chirimuyo: This is the last big push DS is getting, if you have noticed, there's not many upcoming first party games anymore and 3rd party games are too far and in between. Nintendo is 1 company, they dont have 2 divisions, so focusing more on the Wii will make the DS get less support. That's exactly what happened to the Wii and this long drought, DSi took a lot of resources from them, as did DSiware. I never said the DS life was ending here, you just assume things because you cant read properly, or just read what you want to, and that's trolling.

Just curious, but do you have a link for the first part?

What's black and white and red all over?

MadWorld.

Ds.....last push?

we'll talk when DS is at 135 million

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Hmm, is last push the incorrect term then? I'm meaning, the last big announcement Nintendo will make in regards to HW concerning the DS, looks like Ive missused the term last push then.
