Forums - Sony - IGN GIVES LAIR A 4.9

No way. Rogue Squadron and Rogue Squadron 2 are masterpieces.

Rogue Squadron 3 was less so, but still good overall I suppose. It had the entire game of Rogue Squadron 2, except multiplayer, on the same disc, so...win.

But the ground missions in RS3 were crap, and I'd say the overall game started to get tedious. I could see the same happening for Lair...glad I wasn't going crazy.

I bet Factor 5 could get out of this and make a good game again...either something totally different or another space/fighter sim could be good...as long as they don't screw it up.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

looked up wikipedia... somebody thinks they have an TBA Wii project, in addition to a TBA ps3 project.

sounds like this studio has all the technical skills for game making, but lacking in gameplay for some reason, strange. sounds like being pushed by sony to make the sixaxis a central part of lair is the only legitimate reason i can think of.

also sounds like they've been on a downward trend of late...

the Wii is an epidemic.

Um NO!

It was their idea to focus only on sixaxis and it was their brilliant decision NOt to listen to the hardcore gamers, thats what Julian said.

Iam getting it tommorow, might write a review.

i will comnpare it to Warhawk.

It looks like any developer that leaves Nintendo starts to go downhill. First Rare and now Factor 5. It's the Miyamoto curse! It looks like we can add Silicon Knights to that list as well, with all the troubles surrounding Too Human. But I hope I am proven wrong, because I really want it to be good and I want to play it soon.

I haven't tried Lair yet, but from the videos I've seen it looks like Rebel Strike but with dragons and the same style ground missions which were very poor.

I wasn't aware of Factor 5 ever being part of Nintendo. They definitely hit it big on the N64, but they weren't part of Nintendo. Rogue Squadron came out for PC at the same time as N64 if I remember correctly.

So out of pure curiosity I decided to read the Lair forums over on Gamespot. I happened to find this little gem in this thread.

I don't know...maybe cuz it's different, and everyone wants the same crap over and over.

Which of course was followed by:

hmm... and meanwhile Metroid Prime 3 is getting 8s and 9s with people hailing its control scheme as the wave of the future for FPS games. Funny how that works.

Of course everyone else started getting onto that person because Lair and MP3 are different and you don't fly Dragons in MP3 so MP3 doesn't count. Who cares that they both tried something different and one failed while the other soared.

Ouch, nice catch twesterm.

LOL

Lair is very, very similar to RS3 but with dragons. Seriously, you use a tow cable to take down giant, AT-AT like elephants - how the hell is that innovation.

8.0 Presentation
7.5 Graphics
8.0 Sound
4.5 Gameplay
5.5 Lasting Appeal

how is that a 4.9 ?

Total score is a 6.7

I would guess because Gameplay and Lasting appeal are worth more in their equation.

If you just averaged it Sound would be worth the same amount as Gameplay.  Doesn't that seem... well stupid?

IGN's and gamepsots reviews are utter shit, completely worthless garbage. It's funny, because I usually agree with ign/gamespot, but this time i picked up the game before i read the reviews. there is no way in fiery pink hell that lair is a 5.0 game. If you can't control the dragon... you probably should hang up your controller right now. If you don't like the targeting system... don't use it. (gasp imagine that!) I've played Lair for the last 6 hours and it's been the funnest 6 hours I've ever had on my ps3, ps2, xbox, n64, etc. I've never played another game that grabbed me as quickly as lair, it's truly brilliant. People who think rumble is a 'good feature' for immersion really do need to tear off a rhino's head with the sixaxis, by the time you brign down the dam, you'll

be thinking 'rumble? whats that?'.listen to the reviews because the writers own a .com if you want, i'll be busy having fun. voice acting sucks for some characters though. the extra content/unlockables are going to give this game tons of replay value, i haven't done better then a silver ranking yet and i'm still averaging bronzes.

Do to the spacing and use of the word "funnest" I'm going to guess this is a joke and attempt at satire.
