I just feel like we as Wii gamers have reached a point where we are in denial. We are so desperate for a really good game that we don't see faults in games that are otherwise obvious.
this is just IMHO, of course.

I started out liking RE4. Not a lot, but it was decent/good. And it was like that for a few hours, untill the enemies started getting new heads (or tentacles) whenever you kill them, and rising from the dead. All in all, you had to kill the same enemy 3 or 4 times, which is bloody annoying. That wasn't very hard, but it quickly became horribly boring.
Then there's the chainsaw guys... I really hate enemies that 1HKO you. Sure, it might be a challenge, but if you've played perfectly all the way up until that idiot, and then you mess up, you die instantly. It would have been ok if he was made like a boss too, but it's generally just "fire all your bullets at his head as quickly as possible".
... Essentially, I felt that the game requires incredibly little tactics. Shoot whoever is closest to you, and fire precisely. But I don't know... I guess I should have expected a "stupid" game when I bought a horror-shooter. |
I feel like I should defend Resident Evil 4 as I really like the game and have beaten it multiple times. You guys say the game is repetitive. This is true since it is a shooter game and almost every shooter game has the problem of feeling repetitive at times. I felt that RE4, however, somehow made each area have something unique that made you play it a little different that the area before. This is opposed to games like DOOM3, which was basically step #1: walk around. step #2: shoot at stuff.
It's hard to describe what makes RE4 feel non-repetitive for me, it just does.
^^ same here. it's one of my fav games all time actually.
I liked it, and i wanted more of it. this probably took the repetitiveness out of it.
they introduced new enemies, weapons, upgrades and surroundings as you progressed through the game, which changed it up nicely

I never said that RE4 was repetitive, and if I did - I was wrong. It's pretty un-repeitive. The enemy changes a lot, and you're hardly ever in the same enviornment. It's one of the least repetitive shooters I've played (other than Metroid and online shooters, I can't think of any less repetitive) I've ever played.
So you're correct on that part.
Honestly, I never should have bought the game. I dislike it, but it's still (by far) my favourite horror game. I like happy, cheerful games that I smile while playing. I don't mind playing games like GTA, but Resident Evil is almost the exact opposite of how I like my games. RE4 does, by no means fit me, so I don't know why I'm complaining. I mean, I enjoyed it for almost 10 hours, and considering the price, it was almost worth the money.
It's a well created game, and the flaws are really pretty minor, so I should just shut the eff up and let the people who like the genre enjoy it.

I would never call RE4 a horror game. It is not scarry. Gritty, realistic and creepy (at times), yes, just not scarry.
I'm not really sure what to think about this thread.
I'll start by saying that de Blob is a fresh take on the 3D platformer. Its play style is much better than the collect-a-thons that most 3D platformers turn into. Aside from Mario, I can't think of a better 3D platformer off the top of my head.
As for the controls, I didn't like them at first, but once I realized that I was a blob of goo it made sense. You are not supposed to be agile like Mario. That said, once you get used to it, you can pull off some pretty sweet walls runs and wall jumps. The remote works just fine for jumping, and I love it for the attack.
I can't believe that there are complaints about the time limit. There is plenty of time to beat each level, and there is extra time all over the place. I beat every level 100% without ever going over an hour and a half. I completed most levels with 30 or 40 minutes left on the clock.
My one complaint about the game is that you cannot save mid-level.

@blunty
There is a cheat to increase time and lives while playing. Check it out on gamefaqs ;)
Yes the jumping is crap & hopefully they will change it for the next game.
As for saving i had to leave my Wii on over night a couple times, kinda sux, hopefully they fix that too.
But coloring everything and doing all the missions is still pretty fun. It's an average game but since platformers are rare it's an alright purchase.

1) Are you kidding? Aside from painting everything, the entire game is a collect-a-thon. Styles, trees, raydians and others. The painting alone can be seen as 'collecting' because once you missed it you feel inclined to go back for it. Not that it's mandatory, but you just might as well get it instead of playing the entire level again to get 100%
2) If you totally skim through the level time is fine. Getting everything however totally eats away at your time.Unless you played the level a few times and know where everything is (and therefore have a lot of hours pumped into the game)
3) Glad to see you can spare that amount of time every sitting!
Dont get me wrong, I do believe the idea is fresh, I was a bit hooked at first but the flaws, to me,. just became more pronounced as you progressed. Couple that with me now having to do over an entire stage because i lost electricity really puts me off. There i was thinking good, i'm nearly done, I don't have to see this stage anymore thank god! Ah well.
