Forums - Nintendo - How can Wii sustain its leading position in Japan?

We are working on project for business strategy. The project is about Wii strategy in japan. I'm not a console game fan, although I play winning eleven on PS3 with some friends,  and some games on Wii with my wife :).

I need your help for good sources and discussing the following questions:

Accourding to this website and other, Wii is leading by far.

How can Wii sustain its leading position in "Japan"?

what  are Wii users  demographics for in "Japan"?

thanks you

New mario, zelda, wii sports, mk, smash bros and other ninty staples would restore it.

"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

Throw in being THE platform for JRPGs also.

well japan is the home to many jrps so if a dev can make a good one it will drive sales. also what the wii might need is a price cut since its weekly sales is around 20k along with their price cut line (if they have players choice or something similar to it)

They need to do something fast because i see PS3 and even 360 nipping into the Wiis lead.
Lack of quality games is whats stalling sales atm, DQX should shift things in the Wiis favour for a few weeks...
Apart from that i really cant see what the Wii has going for it atm.

Monster Hunter 3.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

PC + Wii owners unite.  Our last-gen dying platforms have access to nearly every 90+ rated game this gen.  Building a PC that visually outperforms PS360 is cheap and easy.    Oct 7th 2010 predictions (made Dec 17th '08)
PC: 10^9
Wii: 10^8

It needs to have some big games released. These small RPGs aren't doing much of anything. (Fragile, Arc Rise Fantasia, Kizuna, Tales Wii, etc.)

Get another game from a big series.

Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

The Wii's success has so far come in two forms, the first: Nintendo franchises is a diminishing force in Japan but still commands sales and the second: Motion with Wii Sports and Wii Fit being a new phenomena which the Wii is still riding the wave of so far.

However, it's been a long time in terms of software. Wii Sports Resort should breath new life in to sales, but the real move will be when the Wii finally lands the demographic it has yet to appeal to. RPG/Japan styled action fans.

The 360 has done a lot of work to make that demographic push and it's seen success. Just imagine what that push would do on a system that already sells quite well. but it takes more than just small releases like Tenchu and Fragile. Those games tend to sell on systems that already have a large fanbase for them. The Wii needs the kinds of games that will attract that fanbase. And it's coming. Monster Hunter and Dragon Quest are two of the biggest franchises in Japan. Tales is no slouch and there are a whole host of other medium to high tear RPG games Wii bound. It's this push that will make the Wii a must have system for the traditional gamer in Japan and should seriously bite in to PS3/360 sales.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

WSR, Wiimotion+, 2 MonsterHunter games, Dragon Quest, Kingdom Hearts (presumably), the upcoming FFCC game, Sin and Punishment 2, Pikmin 3, new colours besides white

and if all that fails, a price drop or a bundle
