Forums - Nintendo - Why did Sega support Nintendo?

Well I think it is alot to do with the success of Mario and Sonic at the Olympics.

They mixed the two mascots into one game, people gained love for Sonic, now we are seing more sonic games.

One word..demographic. Sonic sells better on Nintendo consoles as previously stated.

Not a 360 fanboy, just a PS3 fanboy hater that likes putting them in their place ^.^

They like money?

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

They did well on Gamecube.

When Sega went third party they spread out their support evenly across all platforms. They chose the franchises and games they thought made sense for each platform(they had a lot of talent at that time), and ended up finding their highest success on Nintendo platforms by far. Not only that, their biggest hurdles and financial bombs came from their endeavors on Microsoft and Sony systems.

I used to be a huge fan of Sega's until circa 2003(i.e. my Azel name). I was like a Sega encyclopedia up until that point, when much of their talent hadn't dissolved yet.

This is the case. This is why we saw quality SEGA support from the beginning (i suppose except for Banana Blitz, but i was thinking more of Secret Rings), because they knew Nintendo platforms were a place they could work. They probably would have supported the Wii to a good degree even if it hadn't been a runaway success. Certainly they wouldn't be publishing relatively risky endeavors like MadWorld and The Conduit, but the Sonic Team games would still be there

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I like to think that SEGA's success with the GC has to do with long time Nintendo fans finally being able to play Sonic and friends without having to buy a SEGA console. you'd never imagine that one day you were going to play an official Sonic game in your Nintendo console, and not a Speedy Gonzalez hack

the words above were backed by NUCLEAR WEAPONS!

Sega's classic IPs appeal to the Wii crowd moreso than HD crowd

Sega has gotten raped so far developing for HD systems - poor sales even on critically acclaimed games, although most of Sega's HD games weren't terribly good.

Low development cost = low risk for games like NiGHTS and Samba de Amigo

Sonic is a hit with kids and casuals and guess where those are...

Sonic sees an opportunity to capture the underserved core Wii crowd and is doing a great job with HoTD, MadWorld & Conduit. Hope it pays off...

Wii has been very, very good to Sega. So it only makes sense for them to put more and more towards it.

I can't speak for this gen but last gen it mainly started because Shiggy was good friends with Yuji Naka and others at Sega and being formal rivals and a attractive platform for the demographic of Sonic it made perfect sense.

Started out as a combo of things.

These days I honestly can't say beyond the obvious for sonic but HOTD and other mature titles but I am just glad they are.

I was just thinking as to why Sega chose Nintendo to give Sonic exclusives to and revivals of several of their other franchises. They could've gone PS3 exclusive or something, but ended up Wii-bound. I'm guessing because of dev costs, and the success of the Sonic games.

And while we are at it, I think if A Boy and His Blob can come back after like 20 years, Alex Kidd can too.

Nintendo didn't run Sega out of the gaming industry. Sega fucked up and Sony kicked their asses out the door. Sega respects Nintendo. Besides they need money. I wouldn't call Sonic games a success these days either.

cause Sega want to help Nintendo for doing stuff they cant do themselves, having games that are not mario related (Sarcasm)

"Genesis Does what nintendont"

like i said a couple of times on this site. xD

Because Sega does what Nintendon't.
