Forums - Nintendo - Why come out with a Wii version of Hawx one year later?

I reckon the Wii won't game won't be the same game as the 360 PS3 one. Alot of companies seem to be doing this with the Wii at the moment, have their franchise main series release every 2 years on PS360 and then have a spin-off type thing every other year between.

Like er, Dead Space. Okay, thats the only example, but i'm calling the start of a trend!

Wii does seem to be the place for (often crappy) spinoffs, and Dead Space is far from the only example. Soul Calibur Legends, Castlevania Judgment, RE: UC, and Rayman Raving Rabbids demonstrate that your trend is already well underway.

Maybe they just lack the developers to create them all concurrently and would rather see immediate profit by releasing them as fast as possible instead of waiting for a uniform release.

get out the HD version and make a Wii version all its own, not a port.

I know there are lots of crappy spin off things.

I was more going for the idea that a main series is released each year with a spin off in the gap year. Dead Space 2 will come in 2010 and then a Wii version 2011 and so on. I think Prince of Persia is doing something like this with the Wii too? I except something similiar with Assassin's Creed too tbh.

Problem is I guess alot of franchises don't get a bi-yearly release anymore, at least from Japanese developers.

RRR is probably not a good example since it started multi-platform and then stayed on the Wii because it was fun there (and sold there). One that didn't get listed was Samurai Warriors Katana -- but I am not sure if that is a spin-off or a bad port. Still, the point is well taken.

What really gets me is when a game idea seems like a natural for the Wii -- and it is done for the other consoles. I am thinking specifically of Civilization Revolution, which was "delayed" on the Wii because of resources. It sold only 1.11M between the Xbox 360 and PS3. I would think it would have made more money just going to the Wii and maybe even sold more too.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

You guys do realize that Dead Space Extraction is going to be an awesome game that sells more copies than the original deadspace game does... right?

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

I'm not placing any value judgments on it because too little is known, but it is clearly a spinoff from the main franchise. The subtitle and the fundamental gameplay changes say it all.

Don't forget Dead Rising. Not really a spin-off but an "updated" version of an old game, which happens to be crappy too. And of course Dead Rising 2 has already been announced for PS360.

When we thought "H.A.W.X." stood for "Hammer a Wild Xylophone," we could not figure out why Tom Clancy would be interested in a tribute to the late Tito Puente. Now that we know it means "High Altitude Warfare – Experimental Squadron," it makes sense that he'd be behind a futuristic flight-combat game. Ships for Xbox 360 and PS3 today, March 3. Ships for PC March 17. Look for the Wii version next spring. Order online or visit your local GameStop.

The question is posted in the subject -- why come out with a Wii version of Hawx one year after the other versions have been released?

Did Ubisoft get caught off-guard by the Wii's popularity? Or did they decide to make a cash in?

And how much do these delays in releases (this is not the first) explain why Wii versions of multiplatform games explain why the Wii version often does not do as well as the others.

Ubisoft only finished the Wii version of the Tom Clancy game engine late last year so the delay with H.A.W.X. is due to that factor.

The game was conceived and began development back in late 2006 when the Wii version was never considered.  It wasn't until the Wii was a proven success did Ubisoft decide to port their Tom Clancy game engine to Wii and from then on out ALL Tom Clancy games will see a Wii release.

...

Is it okay if we keep on making up speculative crap? 'Cause it's kinda fun...

Actually, I'm glad to hear this. The Wii version might lose some features from the HD version, but at least it shouldn't be a total steamer. My Wii needs a decent flight sim.
