Forums - Gaming - What do Conduit/KZ2 have in common? Both suffered due to focus on graphics

Split screen sucks... If your playing a multiplayer match. I like my space.

Honestly, is The Conduit even up to the level of graphics that original Xbox games Doom 3 and Chronicles of Riddick had?

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

I don't buy FPS's if they don't have splitscreen anymore. I mean I still get pissed when a game doesn't have bots (which means I'm angry a lot).

Single player focused FPS games don't count here. I'm talking about FPS's with multiplayer components.

The market for online multiplayer is much smaller than that for local multiplayer. Consider how many people don't even have their Wii's connected to a good connection. Local multiplayer only requires a couple of remotes and nunchuks.

The demand for online is exaggerated on the internet, because people who play online are more likely to be the ones who go to gaming forums.

Might be true for The Conduit, but it isn't for KZ2.

The majority of PS3 owners based on Sony numbers have actually connected to the PSN so playing online really isn't that big of an issue for HD console owners...

Lets Face it, Splitscreen was king when online was not very common , the more common online becomes ( and it's really an integrated feature in HD consoles) the less important splitscreen becomes....

Heck as a HD developer I would rather have my customers buy 2 copies of the game than have them share one copy and play splitscreen....

I'm going to have to disagree. Splitscreen is more than playing the game with somebody else. It's also about direct interaction with people. Have some friends over and play some games. Headsets can't replicate that.

And what if your friend doesn't have the same game? What if they don't even have the same console? I only know one other person with a PS3 and two other people with a Wii. This is a big problem for people like me.

Personally, I'd completely give up on multiplayer if online was my only option. It would be like making a conference call when I could be at a party.

I hope you don't mind if I wait for a proper analysis of the framerate (like with the demo).  You come across as a person that hasn't played through Killzone 2, yet.  NO reviewer has said what you've said.  I'll leave the Killzone 2 part of the discussion at that.

COD4 was pushing one system, but not the other.  Remember 600p is not a PS3 centric resolution.  With the Z-buffer, etc in COD4, it's JUST enough room to fit into the X360's eDRAM (the only way 60fps is possible on the X360 at that resolution or higher).

Don't get me wrong, the game looks amazing, but if you say that there are never framerate drops on more than 2 FPS, then you either haven't played the game or you are blind. So far, it's only been a problem in the earlier levels that features bigger areas, more enemies and more action, but they are there.

Why are you saying I said things I didn't say?  I'm following the analysis done on the game so far.  The post of mine that you didn't quote (the one that has EXACTLY what I said in it) places conditions on the framerate drops greater than 2fps.  It's what the analysis of Killzone 2 points out so far.

Ah shit, sorry, I misread your post.

I honestly don't care enough for split-screen. Not every game needs it. Quite possibly my top 10 favorite games of all time are single player only.

Surely every FPS needs it.  The fact that it is absent in Mario Galaxy, MGS, Fallout, GTA, etc is irrelevant.  It is a feature that should be in every FPS and I am baffled at it's recent absence.

LBP is a platformer and has multiplayer, mario galaxy don't. That's a shame, mario galaxy definitely should have multiplayer!

/sarcasm.

The OT is a total failure.
A game is not good or suck because he doesn't have other's feature.
Killzone devs chose awesome graphics over split screen so we have (IMO and I played almost all campaign last night) the best and most immersive FPS experience ever. If they have chosen to lower the graphics and physics so they can use split screen, the game would have been named "A generic shooter".
So what?

I can't believe that Goldeneye on N64 which is over 10 years old had split screen (which made the game as great as it is) and in the year 2009 Conduit lacks split screen.

Maybe I'm getting old, but I agree with this comment 100%. Playing shooters online is fun but the reason why games like GoldenEye and Perfect Dark were so great was that is was you and some friends together talking all kinds of crap while you were shooting each other.  I know people are going to say that's what a headset is for, but it's not the same.  Gaming started out as a social interaction and some people would like it to retain some of this kind of fun.  It doesn't always have to be a party game .  IMO All FPS should have local multiplayer.  When a game doesn't have it, I look at it as a sign of the developer being lazy (this is most of them recently).

A very large percentage play these features. Largely because they are what cause additional people to buy the games. You play with a friend at his house, and it causes you to buy it. Why do you think Halo 3 is stil selling 16 months after launch? People are still exposing their friends, who in turn buy the game. Even if you're perfectly happy buying the game without split screen, it severely reduces the chances your friends will.

You think Halo 3 is still selling because it has split screen?  I am going to say that is a bit of a stretch.  I play coop and mp with my friends all of the time online.  We would never get together to play split screen.  Maybe it is differnet for the Wii, but it just isn't that important on the 360/ps3.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

(has nothing to do with the OT but...)

Am I the only one that think that split screen is ok for co-op but sucks for deathmatchs?

In glodeneye, you could know where the other players are just by looking at their part of the screen... That kinda ruins it all...
