Forums - Nintendo - Why did the Gamecube fail???

I felt very bad for Nintendo in last gen cos the Gamecube sold so poorly.

So I am happy that the Wii is such a huge success.

Easy answer. It looked like a purple lunch box.

I love the Cube, and I think it was the best out of the three consoles last gen... It was almost as good as Xbox in terms of graphics, had one of the best and most comfortable controllers in history (regular and wavebird), 100% GB/GBC/GBA compatibility (with the GBA Player), GBA connectivity (which was awesome but rather expensive), a really low price, it was cool looking, the smallest, almost unbreakable, minimum loading times, difficult to pirate... It was GREAT. I also find it so hard to believe it didn't succeed... And it had the best line of first party games any console ever had, and a ton of great exclusives such as the Resident Evil games, Metal Gear Solid remake, FF Crystal Chronicles, Sega's Sonic, PSO and Skies of Arcadia series, Namco's Tales of Symphonia and Baten Kaitos games, Eternal Darkness from Sillicon Knights, and even the best version of SoulCalibur 2... Outstanding console... A real shame for gamers it failed. It was like a gift to us from Nintendo. Now the Wii is exactly the opposite :(

The nintendo before - ' wii release ' <3
Sega before ' Software Only ' <3

Anti M$ (Therefore anti 360) - im making it official ... Go play your meaningless FPS Games ...

Direct ports from the PS2/Xbox to the Gamecube were very difficult as the disks were smaller in capacity and the controller had fewer buttons.
It still did well because of the first party games.

i agree again. some people were too foolish to realize how amazing the cube and its games are. but again... THE GC DID NOT FAIL...IT MADE MILLIONS IN PROFIT FROM ITS HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE SALES!! xbox was a failure... it lost billions. ps2 was the most successful, but it is an inferior system. nintendo is a game company, and they made a profit on the cube.  and little kid system my ass!! it had 44 or more m rated games, and many of the best rated, best loved, best made games ever. and it did have 3rd party support... ea, thq, capcom, and other heavy-hitters released many titles for the cube. i do not see a failure here...

The main reason I didn't get one was because I found it uninteresting. It was marketed as PS2 jr. The only game that I saw as being very interesting was Skies of Arcadia, which I already had on Dreamcast.

People have gone on about how great Gamecube was with games like Pikmin, Metroid, RE4, and Eternal Darkness; but these games felt boring to me when I played them. Mario Kart, Mario Sunshine, and Zelda were also sub-standard games in their respective series'. All of these games I have played since getting a Wii. I don't see how Gamecube had even close to as powerful a line-up as the PS2 or Wii. I think people are fooling themselves when they say it compared.

i disagree with you. you certainly have the right to have your opinion respected, which i do, but calling those games boring or substandard is a statement not supported by their reviews, their sales, or their many accolades. RE4 was so good sony bribed capcom into breaking its exclusivity with gc and releasing it for ps2, where it sold over 1 million units. it did so again on the wii. pikmin and metroid have been rereleased on wii and have both become hits again. zelda WW has spawned at least two hit sequels on. mariokart doubledash is generally regarded as the best of the series by most fans and critics. sorry if you did not get to enjoy the satisfaction that millions of other gamers did, and continue to today; maybe you should give them another try? s far as the quality of the lineup... as for wii, its lineup basically IS the gc lineup. as for ps2, of course it has numerous top-notch games in its lineup, and i enjoy them, but i think it's fair to say, as i did before, that the gc lineup matches up quite well to it, and even more so against the xbox, which i feel had the least impressive game library.  i don't think any gc fan is fooling themselves at all...

Most of my friends didn't want it because of its "kiddie looking".

This console gave me my favorite game of all time, TLOZ: WW, but its appearance only reinforced the gamecube "kiddie looking"

because it didnt attract the casual market or the gamer market, so it mainly phailed, got i regret buying that system for 99$ (i think i forgot, i was so young lol), only fire emblem and ssbm were played on that thing

I bought the GC last ... Had I known how good it really was (it got a lot of bad press), I would have bought it first.

It is the only last-generation console that I still play regularly (and I have the other two hooked up).
