the last console I bought before the Wii was the Playstation

This is my situation as well. Also, I'm a very avid PC Gamer.

I've always been a Nintendo fan. However, after their performance last generation, I had resigned myself to buying a PS3 this generation. However, when Sony announced the infamous price and Nintendo announced the Wii it became clear that Nintendo would be the dominant force this generation and I wouldn't need to bother with a second console.

So far, everything that the PS3 and 360 have that I might possibly want is also available on PC.

"Ho! Haha! Guard! Turn! Parry! Dodge! Spin! Ha! Thrust!" -- Daffy Duck

I haven't owned a console since the Sega Genesis....  PC gaming since then and now a Wii...

I was a lapsed gamer last generation, although I occasionally played my sister's GC. It was actually a combination of the XBox 360's and the Wii's offerings that brought me back into gaming.

Just to show my console pedigree in chronological order:

Intellivision, NES, Genesis, SNES, PS1, N64, XBox 360, PS2, Wii.

I started with the Master System and the Gameboy...

Followed by Genesis and SNES....

After there is the N64 and my GBC...

Just after I bought the GC and the GBA, my PS2 two years ago, my DS since launch...

And Finally my 360, Wii and PS3...

For my main system, it only depends of the latest releases.

Same. I was PC gaming for a long time. I got bored of the same exact games appearing on PC, as well as the pain in the arse it was to get PC games working (and the expense) and my dislike for Windows. I bought the Wii because it was something different and I wanted some completely new games.

Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!

I came late to gaming. Started on the PC in 1998, didn't become a consistent gamer until I bought a PS2 in 2002. Wii is the first Nintendo system I've personally owned, and I'm hugely impressed. So much damn fun, it should be illegal. I'll be getting a PS3 in the near future.

I used PC and GBA last generation. PC games are getting too complicated and time consuming for me (well, I still play flash games) and the GBA is dead. I use the Wii for casual games (Wii parties) or more advanced games with a walkthrough near-by.

currently playing: Desktop Tower Defense (PC), Puzzle Quest (DS), Trauma Center New Blood (Wii), Guitar Hero III (Wii), Ghost Squad (Wii), Actraiser (SNES), Donkey Kong County (SNES), The Legend of Zelda (NES), Kirby's Adventure (NES)

will play next: Paper Mario (N64), Golden Axe II (Sega), NiGHTS (Wii)

I have been a gamer for a long time, but if we are talking consoles only then before the Wii my previous console was an Atari 2600. I have come back to console gaming because the cost of PC gaming is too much to try to keep up with the latest thing.
As for why buy a Wii? Well it is just fun! I recently had my niece visit and when I turned on the Wii she said "I don't play computer games, I'm no good at them, they're too hard" but within minutes she was up in front of the TV playing Wii Sports Tennis and having a great time.

JRI.

lol....something has happened to this thread. Thanks all for responding. But somehow the question got changed along the way to "what is your console history"....lol.

I think some valid points have been made.

Zucas: "Well asking people who talk on a forum that it's main site based off videogame sales isn't going to give you any kinda accuracy on what your asking." good point....not sure I was going for global accuracy.

Don Wii....as always, your analysis is spot on. This is what I'm looking at. How many fanboys have bought the system....how many PS2 "casually hardcore" gamers bought it, any converts? Considering these figures, what is the allowance for New Gamers. I'm not sure it's as high as Nintendo thinks. Which really means good things for them. Their strategy will work, once its allowed to sit on the shelves for longer than a week. Right now the people who are buying it are putting some time and effort into it. Hardly casual behavior.
