God I hate that guy, worst new scrubs character in a long time. Glad Dr Cox fired his ass.
On topic: I'm not sure why people are still saying S-E needs to start making PS3 games. Considering the PS3's standing in Japan, I'm not sure putting the last remnant and infinite undiscovery (definitely the later, since Last Remnant could have and did ride the S-E name in Japan before people saw mediocrity) on the PS3 first would have done much for S-E, perhaps reduced the Loss, but I would still say it would have been a loss.
On the other side, I'm sure most of the people are saying that because if S-E released a huge amount of games on the PS3 would have meant that it would've had a much better standing of the 3 consoles at this point in time.
I really thought that S-E liked my money... guess I was wrong....
What the have happened to square really? they used to release atleast one great game every year but now we see maybe one in every three years.
If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing
(mostly)
And shepherds we shall be,
For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints
Although I do believe that the article the OP posted was definitely fueled by fanboyism, it does bring up some legitimate points and questions.
As many have stated, if their intent is to maximize their profits why are they going multi-platform for several Sony exclusive games, and yet also releasing new games exclusively for the Xbox?
I've haven't played their new games, so I can't pass judgment on them, but according to the reviewers, their recent games on next gen consoles are reportedly mediocre. I completely disagree with Sony fanboys who blame the hosting console itself for its mediocrity (although I do think that SE's use of the Unreal Engine turned disastrous). However I can somewhat understand them, as in their perspective they see SE's decision to go to the 360 as a symbol of them putting money over quality and fans.
I think those Sony fanboys should realize that Square has always been about making money. However I think someone can argue, Sony or Xbox fanboy or not, that Square seems to be approaching their method of making money almost... mechanically. Instead of the heart and soul they put into making an amazing game that would gain money due to its quality, it seems that they are thinking completely business oriented... if that makes sense. They're mindset is of trying to tap a western market by utilizing western engines and a western console, instead of simply making an amazing game.
===================
On a side note I think that XII's failure was a result of not planning enough. It seems like they had something going. They were trying to go for some kind of theme with the power and the metaphor for the Atomic bomb. The combat system turned out to be mediocre, but it was certainly an ambitious attempt to create something unique...
So to sum it up FFXII just felt incomplete.

S-E is in trouble from losing it's perspective. They clearly have a divide in their company. You have one group that really wants to make money. This group is why we are seeing the hand held and ports so strongly from the company. The other group is the "rockstar" developer who cares more about the final impression of his artistic endevour, profit is irrelevant to his. This is the FF13 and such games.
Back in the SNES to PS1 era the businessman and developer worked together. Trying to make a good game while maximizing profits. FF6, FF7, Tactics are excellent examples of this.
In a sense Wada is to blame, but not for bad business strategies, but for letting the ego to grow of the "artistic" developer. Wada is trying to find solutions to the problem. Much like an alcholholic not admitting there is a problem with himself(the company) he is looking to find alternatives. Good ideas, but ultimatly will not change the companies trajectory enough. S-E realizes the developement time in their BIG products, so they are buying shorter time games. This will only prolong their decline.
What Wada needs to do is have have the businessmen and artist work together. Making a game to be sold to the fewest market is not a wise move. Much like many the only real option is full multiplatform. I don't think Wada will ever make the move. I believe he sides with the artist, but grudging acknowledges the company situation and will try to deal with it.
Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

Your post was alright (although little bit too angry) until those last 2 stuff. The 1st because PSP ain't dead (speacially not in Japan), and 2nd because you have to remember we're talking about Square, a company that mainly makes RPGs. So yes they should put Nintendo first, but Microsoft? Either multiplat or no HD games is the way to go. |
japan cant carry the psp.
every year japan becomes less less significant.
unless something radical changes by this time next year the japanese gaming market will be little more than a memory when compared to america and europe..
the uk will be a bigger market than japan by years end..
as far as i am concerned(and alot of people would agree)
the psp is dead.
and microsoft managed to get squars second biggest game franchise, thats kinda a big deal.
hello how are you.

Now you lost all my respect that you had gained from the first post.
1st of all 50 million units shipped is not only good, it's unprecedent for any console not in the 1st place of the race. I wouldn't call that a bad thing. Just because it's not selling 100 million like the DS, doesn't mean is dead.
2nd: Yes the American and European market are bigger/going to get bigger than Japan, but it'll never be insignificant. Many games (like say... some of the ones that Square makes) only sell there, and some others sell more there than they do on the West.
3rd: The thing you said about Microsoft is completely irrelevant to the point I was trying to make. Why did you say it anyway?
