Forums - Sony - I dont get Sony marketing.....

Bah in continental europe (Mouahaahah), they're doing it pretty well for what I've seen:

- Killzone 2 posters (St valentine's day) in germany

- I belgium, we have a popular show (belgian quizz) and there is an ad after the show for the PS3+Buzz.

- In france, a few months ago, after Star academy (french x-factor) there was an ad for the PS3+Singstar.

No really, I think they're doing fine!

They are indeed spending £2 million on advertising KZ2 which is supposed to start in mid-February. We're exactly in the middle of February right now, so we should be seeing something very soon.

There is also the off-chance Sony sees this as a game that is meant for current owners, and not something that is supposed to win over people who haven't bought a PS3 yet. If they do this, then don't expect much advertising on TV at all. The game won't be positioned as a system seller, just one to have an entry in a niche Sony wants to make sure they have covered. One can hope it is more than that, but time will tell. They didn't, for example, run an add for Killzone 2 during the Superbowl.

I've seen tons of SFIV commercials, but hey, thats Capcom. Everyone knows that Sony HATES marketing!! If Killzone was being released by M$, there would be a Mountain Dew tie-in, and billboard on busses.

Ninty would have tons of commercials too. Just look at Mario Sluggers, and Wii Music commercials.

But its Sony....so nothing. Then they'll sit around wondering why its not selling.

Sony does market. They just don't market 1st party very well. They market 3rd party just fine.

@kantor... microsoft have advertised many 3rd party multiplats over here... just throwing the 360 logo on the end. Maybe thats another reason why they are winning in the uk?

Yes, they advertise games that are timed-exclusives for only on Xbox 360. It is great marketing because it leaves no room for gamers to look at the competitors late version.

Not true. KZ2 is meant to get western gamers to buy PS3's. They are using what I call the "Halo mentality". But it's not like it will reach Halo's greatness.

Tomb Raider eh? If so then Microsoft will be capitalizing. Sony needs to get their priorities straight with what to fund.

correct

Sony also do the same, but not on the same level as Microsoft.

Burnout Paradise for example was heavily marketed in Europe by Sony.

Also it's worth noting that Ratchet and Clank: TOD had a 1 million advertising budget in the UK, but it's advertising, so far as I recall, didn't fully start until about a week or so after the game had launched.

Edit: FIFA 09' was also massively advertsied by Sony only recently. There were 2-3 minute spots of it between football games that must have cost them a fortune.
