They lost money in Q1 and Q2, but in this past quater (Q3) the games division posted a profit. These shipment numbers come from that report.

Looks like I found the missing link - PSP sold whooping 4.5 million (sell-in) in Asia, outside of Japan:

* SCEA: Approx. 18 million units
* SCEE: Approx. 16 million units
* SCEAsia: Approx. 4.5 million unit
* SCEJ: Approx. 11.5 million units

I didn't check it, but according to your fellow Nintendo fan, NJ5, Nintendo didn't even bother releasing Wii in most of these territories - because of piracy.

Also, just because VGC can't track them, doesn't mean the numbers don't exist. 4.5 million is a huge number.
