I got the same error a couple of days ago when trying to install a program. I installed .NET Framework and it works now, dunno if it's related in any way. You should probably google the error code.

Abort! I read that it's the application's error and needs to be reinstalled. Nothing to do with NET Framework.

Does the setup app initialize on another computer? I think it could be that the files on the CD have become corrupt, in which case you'll need to download a new version from the HP website.

Is this the scanning/PC-Fax software? - if the new hardware wizard found and installed the printer it should already work as a printer shouldn't it??

Why don't you try downloading the drivers from HP's site?
