I reckon most Xbox 360 owners would find if difficult to complain about JRPG's this generation.

We are getting at least two or three a year ranging from decent to brilliant.

Well, compared to everything in the 6th gen, you only have Lost Odyssey, Tales of Vesperia, and Star Ocean 4, which I beleive will be amazing. Decent doesn't cut it against the 6th gen JRPG's.

OK, but what about Persona 4? It still came out last year, so it has to count for a 7th gen game?

I think I missed the part where Persona 4 wasn't a PS2 game.

I fully agree with Xen. 360 is the best place for JRPGs this gen (so far), but that doesn't make it great.

I don't understand the argument. I mean, look, the Wii is considered a 7th gen console (Oh snap, I went there)! D:

Spare my life.

Spare my life never fails to remind me of this:

OT: This generation is pretty damn good, and I think it's just hitting its stride. This year is going to be lousy with good games.

This generation overall has indeed been great for a wide variety of gamers, except for the long time JRPG fan.

So I'm not the only one then...

Well that isn't to say we haven't been getting any JRPG's, it is just that the quality level is nowhere near what it was the last 2 generations. Back on PS1 JRPG were all over the place and we had tons of to notch titles, PS2 wasn't as much but it was still more than enough to keep the long time JRPG fan like myself content.

It is just that I know something is wrong when my best JRPG experiences this gen have come from the console without an abundance of JRPGs. Speaking of Disgaea 3 and Valkyria Chronicles. Around this time last gen I would have steamrolled though 6+ quality JRPG titles already.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Best Gen Ever = SNES/Genesis gen. Followed closely by the NES gen.

I would say this gen is probably 3rd, in my opinion.

I am still kind of shocked at how dumbed down a lot of games are relative to difficulty. NES games (my childhood console) were brutal and unforgiving and fun as hell. I can't even imagine my nephew getting through a single level of Megaman 2 or contra, yet I was playing these at years younger than he...

I am a Gauntlet Adventurer.

I strive to improve my living conditions by hoarding gold, food, and sometimes keys and potions. I love adventure, fighting, and particularly winning - especially when there's a prize at stake. I occasionally get lost inside buildings and can't find the exit. I need food badly. What Video Game Character Are You?

JRPG's are on a huge downturn in terms of popularity

No they're not, don't be silly.

I agree with the sentiment of the OP, with the caveat that the generation is only just now really coming into its own and flourishing. By the end of the generation it will be clear that this is the best so far.

But I expect the next one to be better.

I think this gen is pretty good so far.

- All the little online games you can buy
- Good enough graphics for me to not need a PC
- Wireless controllers
- Great games (both now and for a long time to come)
- Unique games (LittleBigPlanet, Mirror's Edge, Valkyria Chronicles, EndWar, Flower etc.)
- Patching (There is a wealth of positive effects to being able to patch games, despite the few negative ones there also are)
- Both the PS3 and 360 have good multimedia capabilities
- Expansion of online play. Okay, this is hardly huge, but 8-man coop in Resistance 2 is great fun!

I am quite happy with what we've gotten this generation

I agree with everything you said.

And to the other people posting here, I would say that if you are younger than I am, you can't really be talking about which generation is the best because you weren't old enough to be playing during the NES/SNES era.

Not so good for me, same issues with the JRPGs. My most played systems this gen are still the PS2 and two handhelds.

The graphics, online and multimedia bits are fine, but I've had a decent computer for the last 10+ years for gaming, and had it connected to the TV for multimedia so it doesn't really matter to me much.
