Xen said: Westernized?
I swear to God, if this starts becoming a fuckin' trend I'm gonna go mad. WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING TO MY JRPG's?
Imagine Tales of... like that... maybe do CGI instead of Anime too?

Are you mad? Good. Be mad. But I don't make games like this; I just know the formulas they use. If you want to be mad, then be mad at the game makers who treat you as though these stereotypes applied, because rest assured: this is how they see you.
Perhaps even be mad at yourself for being so hard to distinguish from the stereotype from a sales perspective that things like this actually work. But be careful on that score: your habits are something you can actually exercise control over, and so you can do something about that one. Getting game makers to start preserving their games in the original form will be much harder, and it is probably too late to do anything for SO4 in particular, but the market has to change if you want this trend to stop, and there is a part you can play in that process.
Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.
