Wow this is one of the best threads ever! Thanks to everyone for such an engaing discussion. Reading up on all of this and the back story really makes me sympathise with the Helghast a lot more. Here's to wishing for a parallel KillZone game spinoff only with you playing as a helghast protagonist. Yay!

Have you played through the Russian campaign for CoD:Waw?

I keep picturing something similar for Killzone 2 with the Helghan force in the role of the Russians, I can picture it now, the final confrontation, reclaiming Vecta, removing the oxygen mask and breathing fresh air for thefirst time and raising the Helghast flag just like the end of CoD:Waw.

@papflesje

Actually, its the system that's the hub, not the planet Helghan, and since UCN control the system now, the biggest reason to invade Helghan is to kill Visari. Remember, that this is instigated by the ISA of Vecta, who are understandably more nervous of their neighbours than the UCN which has to look at the broader picture and not just the welfare of a single planet.

lol, if they were the recent generations of Helghast, it'd be a twist of fate that they've finally won back their Vekta and they've adapted too much to Helghan that they can't live in other places anymore.

Roger that, Mibuo ^^

That would make a good out-take, a bit like War of the World lol.

because they are more appealing and unique.. not some other generic.. and bland good doing military force.. as ISA obviously is :).. the game is about the hellghast nobody is going to say "golly them isa sure looks interesting i should get more information on this game"

and i think it would be a little blunt to even compare the invasion of helghan with the invasion of iraq.. even writing this feels stupid..

but i do think that the whole thing may be some political comment... the good guys drive off the invaders and invade their planet to retaliate and "restore peace" but they turn out to be even worse because that planet they defended was never theirs in the first place because they took it from the hellghast ..who only became so militaristic and aggresive because of the ISA took vecta by force out of greed

Well, Saddam was seen as a threat with Iraq.  He invaded Iraq, and the world was sold a bill of goods he was about to acquire WMD, and they didn't want to risk "a smoking gun turned into a mushroom cloud".  Even with all this talk, the world wasn't going to vote to invade Iraq.  But, the USA did.  The point being, even if someone may pose a threat to strike, it doesn't mean you invade them.   I believe in a special on KZ2, a lead designer on the game (or a business type) said that the game is going to make it unclear whether or not you are on the right side.

The only reason to bring up Iraq was the invasion of Iraq was considered morally questionable.  The invasion of Helghast seems similar, particularly all this talk of the back story, which is the impression I got the more I read the discussion in this thread.

:) i guess if they survived the adaption phase to live on that hellish piece of rock ..the adaption to vecta ,if there was any necesarry would seem  like a vacation   "oh god my lungs cant take that fresh air ..and my eyes cant take all those bright colours"  " deal with it you whippersnapers, when we first came to helghan half of us died of radiation , lung insufficency or starvation and you complain about rainbows and fresh air?"

Considering that the Helghast DID attack Vekta and DID steal nuclear weapons, I'd say that's posing enough threat for the ISA to want to take action.

So, you are saying the Helghast possessed WMD?

Did you read our debate? The one thing we agree on is that the ISA are evil bastards. We just don't agree on how evil they are, compared to the Helghan (now the Helghast)

The ISA are every bit as bad as the Helghast, but not as iconic.

The ISA developed some to use against the Helghast, but the Helghast stole them during the invasion of Vekta (during the events of Liberation).

In fact, if you've seen all the videos for Killzone 2, it appears that the Helghast use a nuclear weapon against the ISA.
