z101 that's partly true except that I see the next generation really kicking off in 4 years from now not 1 or 2.

What SEGA needs to do is market the hell out of it. Conduit comes out around the same time as all the summer movie blockbusters whose target audience is the same as The Conduit. Have some trailer play infront of these movies and alot of the work is done
| z101 said: Publishers who still need a "message" to make core wii games are irrelevant for the wii market now and in the future. A good game needs at least 1-2 years to be made. But in 1-2 years we have the next console generation. So publisher who missed the wii market now have no chance to make the big money in the wii market like sega will do. |

Actually, the question asked about sending a message, not a GOOD message.
So I would say zero copies. That way, developers will know to avoid the Wii with these kinds of games
Market them like crazy and the Conduit should have considerably frontloaded sales.
As for Madworld, a 1 mill. lifetime sales figure would be enough.

Frontloading is not a good thing though.
All true breakout successes have not been frontloaded. Ultimately that's what they're hoping for, word of mouth break-out success that isn't too uncommon on Wii.
A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.
^Well, you know about FPS people these days. Hyped FPSs are often front loaded. The Conduit needs to reach 500K after its initial boost, since most third party people tend to be impatient.
After that it can continue to sell with WAW style legs.
As for Madworld, that game looks a bit too gruesome that it will be lucky to break 1 million.

Frontloading is where the bragging rights is, regardless of how successful its lifetime is.
Off topic but i just gotta say how much i love SEGA, the 3rd party ambassadors of quality core titles on the wii, a nintendo console, a statement that uttered ten years ago would have been considered lunacy. Thanks SEGA.
nintendo and sega fan since i was old enough to hold a game controller.
note: my games collection on my profile is only 20ish% complete, i've got a boatload of 360,saturn and dreamcast games to add and a few ps3 games, thanks :)
I think the very existence of the games are sending a message right now, lots of developers are starting to make more serious Wii projects already, though sales of Mad World and The Conduit will be able to send a serious message. It's like SEGA is writing the book of "We made millions and so can you".
Already Mad World is getting some pretty cool and creative marketing, at my store we've already had some posters but now we have this Mad World button that looks like Staples "Easy button" but this button does chainsaw noises and says reserve Mad World (which will be mine when the marketing campaign is over)
